Dems denied tickets to inaugural festivities

House Democrats say they are having trouble getting tickets to inaugural festivities for President-elect Donald Trump, leading some to openly speculate it might be a sign of rancorous partisanship to come.

“It is not normal,” said Kim Fuller, a scheduler for Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.)

“Not only is it unfair but it deepens the chasm between our parties and confirms that we will not be considered,” Fuller said in her note to other schedulers.

“Things are worse now than they’ve ever been before.”

I stand with John Lewis. Trump is not a legitimate president. The republicans staged a coup. The democrats should all boycott this charade.

The rally in my city is at 5pm. People are coming that work this day. Some are getting off an hour early to participate.

I will then be at the Women's March at my State Capital on Saturday.

But there is precedence for what we are seeing that dates back to Andrew Jackson's ascendency to the office of the President.

And he broke with tradition immediately. He was the first to fire all career bureaucrats immediately upon assuming office. His supporters would be akin to today's "deplorables". They behaved like bullies and were hostile towards everyone who disagreed with them.

His inauguration party lasted weeks and his supporters got super drunk and trashed the White House. And I am sad to admit that he is considered to be the founder of the Democratic party.

His Democrats were nothing like today's Democrats. They behaved more like the Tea Party faction of the Republican party behaves today except drunk.

that must have been taught in the years of school that I missed. I got my primary education in the north east coastal region.. the history you were taught (in the 50s and 60s) was mostly about the northern colonial states and by ninth grade I think we were at the Louisiana Purchase and that was the US history part and on to the WWII canon of wisdom... but I left school at that point too so there's that. Went to college over 20 years later but history wasn't my focus.

Thanks for enlightening me, I'll have to do some reading about that period and the political atmosphere of the time.
