Is anyone else melting down?

Can't stop crying

It is not that an opposition party won. Done that, lived through it.

It is the utter sadness of all these traditions that I didn't think
were important are chipping away at all I have known

The President lives in the White House

The first lady lives in the White House

The Press has open access in the White House

The first lady is dignified

The President is dignified. They may be 100% wrong but they have a modicum of honor and dignity.

The President doesn't fire a life long parade announcer

The President didn't participate in a golden shower to defile the former president.

We can hope that the Republicans and Trump, by taking the whole country down into hell, will finally shake up the Fox News dittoheads into realizing what they've been supporting.

There is a painful trip ahead but it could still be a precursor to clear skies on the other side for us all.

A few articles recently about how the media needs to handle things in these extraordinary times (TPM has been a really good read for weeks)

My feeling that this can't hold - that it is all amassing into a big collapse - huge overreach before it even steps foot in the White House

The Obamas conducted themselves with grace and dignity. Every moment President Obama acted like and spoke like a President, like a statesman, like a leader.

We will now have a president who is crass and vulgar.

It makes me want to cry.

Same woman thinks that NOW we're about to have class and dignity back, in the form of the incoming First Floozy. First "First Lady" we've seen naked...

And yeah, I've got the blues pretty big time. Planning to be VERY VERY busy all day, away from the news (hello, Food Network, providing the noise from the other room while I'm crafting!), and my kid's band has a local gig that same night. So I won't hear or see any of the coverage that day. Probably will miss it the next day, too, since that's the L.A. march. Then, there's a Democratic group hosting several elected officials including Ted Lieu, the increasingly righteous Congress rep for my district, who I've certainly liked but am now getting to LOVE! I plan to thank him for boycotting the "Ignorguration".

I was driving home from an errand, and found myself sitting at a stop light, slack-jawed, shaking my head. I Cannot Fucking Believe that donald fucking trump is actually going to be the fucking president. CANNOT FUCKING BELIEVE IT.

I also set up my Amazon account so that a tiny percent of anything I purchase from Amazon goes to Greg Palast's efforts. And I'm about to switch from AT &T -- which refuses to stop advertising on Breitbart -- to CREDO. For Christmas I bought exclusively from UNICEF and the Rainforest Site (at https://therainforestsite.greatergood.com/store/trs/category/285/sale). I'm all cried out. I think. I've accepted that this nation is pretty much over because our electorate is way too ignorant. A well informed electorate is crucial for democracy.

I really don't see a path forward, especially as precedent after precedent is either being set or dismantled lately. We have no safe guards. Trump can and will do whatever he wants, and the media will continue to focus on everything except what actually matters.

Still, I can't get too upset because, at the end of the day, karma's a bitch. What starts bad, ends bad.

I've been dealing, mostly, since the shock of the election results. Ok, that's a Trump level lie, I melted down rather epically, and rebuilt myself from the ashes. I'd thought I was on pace to work, and manage things again, though.

Then, today, I lost it again. I have no idea why I melted down again. I have a plan. I've written to President Obama and said my thanks and goodbye. I thought I was focused, on track and ready to kick ass. Then out of the blue I just lost it. Yes, I cried for our country, too.

I'm working on getting myself back in line again. I'm a fighter.

I saw a local Republican lawmaker say they didn't know how much "fun" this would be, yet. That helped refocus me. Fuck them, but thank you all the same for remiding me why I have to fight, asshat!

Maybe because I/we survived eight miserable years of Bush/Cheney. Or because I have close ties to NC and have watched the GOP destroy decades of progress in a matter of months. The state booted its Republican governor in November, so there *is* hope. Or maybe it's because I'm from the Rust Belt and have seen the decline, and knew this was coming. Or maybe it's because the Democratic Party seems to FINALLY realize something is terribly wrong as it fully controls a measly six states, an historic low. With Bernie Sanders working with party leadership, I feel optimistic.

We've survived pubic hairs on Coke cans, semen-stained blue dresses, diaper-wearing, prostitute-frequenting congressmen... we'll survive Russian golden showers.

My husband and I were in Washington on election day and had a very nice day at the National Museum of the American Indian. After that it's been all down hill - the election, a train trip from hell (engine broke down and it arrived nine hours late), my husband's appendix burst Thanksgiving morning and he spent three days in the hospital, my mother in law went into the hospital New Year's Eve and we lost her last Thursday with the memorial service today. That's just the personal stuff!

I'm tired, my husband is tired (though thankfully he is now well), and the bad news just keeps going. I'm up at 3:30 AM because I crashed early, woke up and can't get back to sleep.

I'm tempted to climb into a bubble and avoid the news for the next four years - but I can't do that. Our country needs us all to fight for all our citizens.
