(3,827 posts)Iran has been trying to provoke the US for the past few months. Our Navy even fired warning shots at Iranian vessels in early January.

Don't be shocked if some type of event with them happens in the coming weeks.

What worries me is that we are incredibly vulnerable right now. There is still good control over the military and the security apparatus is in good standing but our command is in bad shape. I mean that from an organizational sense. They are in complete disarray and really have no idea what they are doing.

(24,736 posts)we are extremely weak and vulnerable right now, and there are those who wish to take advantage of it, and are smart and powerful enought to do it. Including Iran.

(3,827 posts)Do you think we'd sit on the sidelines watching them bomb Tehran?
Let's just hope this doesn't happen to one of our Navy ships-- What do you think Trump's response would be?
According to Lawrence Brennan, a Fordham University maritime law professor and former US Navy commander, "This attack is likely to impact US naval operations and rules of engagement in nearby waters."
2016 saw a significant spike in the number of incidents at sea between the US Navy and fast-attack craft of the Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, at least one of which required the US Navy to open fire with warning shots.
Meanwhile, Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen had a blockbuster 2016, using an anti-ship missile to hit an Emirati naval vessel and then firing a salvo of missiles at US Navy ships in October.

(1,132 posts)The Iraq War fiasco is still fresh in the minds of Americans and Republicans were largely blamed for it. A war with Iran would be several magnitudes worse, and neither they nor Gump have the popularity GWB enjoyed in 2002.

(2,013 posts)VERY much hope I'm wrong, but I've suspected something HORRIBLE will happen on US soil to give them their war (like a tactical nuke somewhere in SoCal). That's our WORST case scenario, as it would likely give them the excuse that they so desperately want.
I'm truly hoping, however, that their sheer ineptitude makes something like this impossible and that we can start climbing back out of this hole within the next 2-4 years. #RESIST

Having a 23 year old son, I wake up with panic attacks since the cheeto got elected. I don't want to seem unpatriotic, but I'll be God damned if I send my kid off to fight a war that this orange ass started over Twitter.

(406 posts)I'm researching my genealogy to maybe move and get citizenship in Germany. I can move and work wherever I want and make it work by moving around countries every 6 months (at least now) but if the draft is reinstated, there won't be much I can do to protect my son.
