Daily Beast columnist David Cay Johnson told MSNBC’s Joy Reid Friday that President Donald Trump is nothing more than “a racist” who “doesn’t know anything.”

Johnson outlined the complicated history of Trump with people of color in discriminating against African-Americans and Asians in rental housing, employment and other complaints.

“Donald Trump is a racist and we need to recognize we’ve put a racist in the White House,” Johnson said. “We also need to recognize Donald doesn’t know anything. Donald doesn’t know a Sunni from a Shi’a from a Sikh nor why that would matter.”

Johnson urged others to look at the countries chosen for the immigration ban and those not chosen. He reiterated that those with Trump investments were not included, despite having a history of terrorism.

“The big unanswered question here is whether Donald Trump will defy a federal judges’ orders,” he continued. “You may not like a judge if a police officer says ‘stop.’ You may think he has no reason to do so, but you’re only sagacious to stop. The same thing with federal court orders. Presumably, some of the people around Donald are cautioning him not to overplay and if he’s going to defy an order to carefully pick. This would be a very, very unfortunate case if he wants to do that for him in his effort to essentially assume dictatorial powers.”
