Years ago my brother was a high school coach at a private school in albany ny. Albany academy. He spotted a running back playing at albany high school. Public high school. The players name was dion lewis. My brother pulled some strings and got dion into albany academy. He excelled at football. They became family.
My brother became his mentor. He helped him get into good college prep school and then he helped him get into pittsburg college. My brother treated dion like his own son. Dion was a star at pitt. Dion applied for the draft after his second year at pitt. Big gamble. My brother was there with him every step of the way. Agents had to go through my brother. Dion wanted it that way.
Dion was drafted by the eagles in the 5th rd. Dion showed great potential but injuries got in the way. He was traded to the browns and he broke his leg the last pre season game. My brother was there for his rehab. My brother was there working him out.
Last year the patriots picked him up. Dion got off to a great start. He was making people take notice. He got hurt again. ACL. Once again my brother was with him. Dion came back quickly. He is a big reason the pats are the Super Bowl this year.
My brother flew down to texas with his sons to watch dion in the Super Bowl. It doesn't get better than that. After the game dion is taking my brother and his sons to the players celebration.

(13,776 posts)Sure, maybe Dion would have made it to the NFL without your brother's having noticed him at Albany High School... but maybe not.
Thanks for sharing that story!

BTW, I was born in Albany, that's where my Dad's family was from. I now live about an hour north, just south of Lake George. My cousin graduated from Albany Academy and my HS team competed against them, LOL. I'll be rooting for Dion and his team on Sunday, now that I know there's a home town player on the team!
