Thank you everybody for talking to me. He had gotten himself an immigration lawyer. They tried to do things like say he worked illegally when he was 16 but he had a work permit and he was also a citizen by then. They also tried to say he illegally worked when he was here when he was 13 but the problem was he was only traveling with a church choir from Germany and he was not getting paid for it. They also tried to say he had a felony which when they did real research he did not have one. They tried to pin stuff on him that if they had done real research they would have realized bringing him in was a waste of everybody's time. Once again thank you all for talking to me.

(5,091 posts)that was my fear. He should go to the major news outlets and tell his story.
Even better hopefully he will go to his congress person or if he can not trust
his rep. then go to a democratic representative.
This story needs to get out. It will be happening to others. The great
intimidation is beginning. None of us are immune.

Doreen
(11,686 posts)wrong before he got his citizenship at 15 years old and try to say he had a felony which he most certainly does not. He enjoyed watching them work and prove to themselves that they were wrong.

(11,686 posts)His father was American military. No middle Eastern descent.

(2,037 posts)What happened was egregious - straight out of a third world autocracy.
Thank goodness everything turned out ok for him in the end; if Republican minds are finally changed about this policy, his experience will surely have a lot to do with that.
All the Best, Doreen.

(6,699 posts)You expressed it better than I can. "Gestapo wannabes" is a perfect description. Watch them at the Houston Airport. I've had numerous experiences with having to smile and politely respond to their insulting questions and their insinuations of wrong doing nearly every time I've crossed the Mexican border...and that's been dozens of time. I can count on it.

(6,699 posts)I've bitched about this plenty on these threads, but once again, I've had NUMEROUS experiences with Border Patrol and ICE agents proudly acting like Nazi's. They might hit it right once in a rare while, but they insult the people they deal with on a regular basis; and my wife and I have had several experiences with these ass holes. I have ZERO respect for any of them, as MOST of the ones I've dealt with have been Class A ass holes from start to finish. It's as though someone gave them a membership card to the Nazi Party.
Not exaggerating here at all. Even my elderly mother-in-law was pulled aside at Houston Airport and made to wait ALONE in their office for over an hour to drill her with needless, stupid questions that were already dealt with at the immigration window. Nazis....ALL of them!

(7,809 posts)And it sounds like they decided to pick on the wrong person. How stupid does ICE have to be to go after an innocent and politically savvy & active citizen?
His story needs a greater audience than just us here.

(10,137 posts)Contact your representatives in Congress! As an American citizen, he deserves to have them on his side - and they can do things like have an aide contact ICE with some pointed questions.
Glad things worked out for him.
