Why did Flynn make multiple calls on the same day to Russian Ambassador? What was the rush?
To make sense of Flynn's calls on the day of the sanctions, we need to look at the other end of the calls. What was so important for him to talk to Kislyak that day when he knew the intelligence community would be wiretapping the Russian's phone?
It was an emergency. The deal with Trump was that Russia would help get him elected and Trump would push through Exxon's billion dollar oil deal with Russia.
Unfortunately for Trump and Russia, Obama found out about the election interference and dropped sanctions that stopped the oil deal. Big mistake for Trump to lose control of the situation.
It was necessary to assure the Kremlin that the sanctions would be lifted as soon as Trump took office. Trump and Flynn, no doubt, had planned that after the election with Flynn as National Security Adviser, they would be able to talk freely with the Russians. But Trump was not in office yet, so Flynn had to improvise. Probably one of the conditions of that came out of the communications was that Tillerson, ex-Exxon CEO, would be put in Trump's cabinet as a sign of the good faith that Trump would follow through on his end of the deal.
Now with the outing of Flynn's phone calls, Trump is running scared. Will he be able to stop investigations into his and his staff's Russian connections? Will he be able to lift sanctions before he is impeached or totally crippled?
Look for the de legitimization of the press and the intelligence community to rise to new levels, as we've seen in the press conference today.
