If Trump goes down, he takes most of the Republican Party with him.

They have little choice but to support him to the bitter end. And if the first month is any indication, it could be a very bitter end.

They are in a no-win situation. If they openly oppose Trump, his base will turn on them. If they stay on board until the ship goes under, they drown in the process. They have no good choice with Donald Trump.

Also, it seems like an impossible task to clean up after Trump for four years. Because there is no hint that he is going to change.

The longer they can escape ownership of Trump's Presidency, the longer they czn escape personal scrutiny. If there is a hell on earth, Republicans are probably as close as anyone?

I got a news alert on my device about Trump mobilizing 100k National Guard troops to round up illegal immigrants. I'm shaking with rage. Fuck these inhuman scourges. Fuck them all. The GOP is behind all of this. They own this clusterfuck 100%. The entire party needs to be flushed into the sewer.

Also, I know that Trump is denying this, but bullshit! We'll have concentration camps before long and I will fight to the death to make sure this doesn't happen. The insanity is cranking up daily. This cannot stand.

I believe he knows where the bodies are buried and he's holding that against them to protect himself now. And just in case he doesn't know where the bodies are buried - he's not beyond lying and making crap up to take them out. Either way the Repugs are deathly afraid of him and are coerced into supporting him.

If they quickly find an agreed upon "Smoking gun" and impeached him for absolutely reprehensible actions they can shoe-in Mike Pence early enough before the 2018 elections. They can still get their far-right big corporate agenda through the house, senate, and Executive Branch. They get their Supreme Court nominee. The Trump-peters will slowly go away. Donald can write books (well ghost right), start a cable news network, fly around the world giving stupid $1 million speeches, etc.

The Democratic Party is in a far more precarious position and we will need a couple of successful election cycles to recover from the total disaster of 2016. If we lose again in 2020 it is more likely that we will implode.

The conservative machine is reshaping government and they a deep and well planned agenda that is rapidly being implemented while we just focus on asswipe.

The pukes are playing for time will tolerant him until they have it all locked down, actually we are still doomed.

When Hillary lost she took the two-party system down with her. She was a bad candidate that was pre-selected by out leadership so no viable opponents ran against the Clinton machine.

She lost to Obama in 2008 and showed then how vulnerable she was as a candidate but the Clinton's were too good of political operatives so they gained control of our party and in doing so destroyed our down ballot hopes.

If we had only been able to gain control of the senate we would not be in the mess we are in now.

When Biden didn't run it was over and a lot of us new it at the time.

But ever since the election debacle of 2000 people have been saying that the Republican Party is doomed. And its stronger than ever at this point.

Keep in mind that if Trump goes down, his base will NEVER concede that he did anything wrong.

It may not happen immediately, but this is not sustainable. And in the long run, they will PAY for it. I just hope I live long enough to see it!

and some in his party are taking steps to standing up to Trump - voting against some of his cabinet nominees, asking for investigations into Russia, etc.

Not enough, but it's only been a month... if Trump hits low 30s or upper 20s by the end of the year, we could see a trickle of anti Trump people in the GOP and lower than upper 20s and it could become a flood.

The Republican Party wanted a Pence, not a Trump. The trouble is, Pence is about as colorful as a grey crayon. So, they needed a Trump to get the necessary publicity and funding. Besides, Trump had the money connections, and was attractive to Putin because he was in hock to him.

At this point, the Republican party would like nothing more than to have Trump board a small plane with maintenance done by the same mechanic who checked out the planes of Mel Carnahan and Paul Wellstone. They want dull, dependable Pence, not loose cannon Trump. Pence may be low caliber, but he will shoot only at Democrats, as opposed to Trump who shoots at anything that moves.
