For a "wealthy" man who has lived his entire life in NYC, Trump is extremely uncultured.

He can afford to attend all the great works of culture in NYC from ballets to operas to the theater to art galleries. Yet, you never hear him reference any of these things.

He might be rich and always has lived the rich life but I suspect from a conversation I had with someone that he can not read very well. Just because you are rich does not mean you got around not learning particular things well. He does seem like his culture is very lacking.

estate development, a world where lots happens orally and lower level minions take care of the written details. He gets information from conversation and TV and if he struggles with attention and focus, can likely not read beyond about a third grade level. Hence a pitifully inadequate vocabulary. He's simply not very bright. And has anger issues. Twitter came along at just the right time.

The history is really sad, because we get much of our wisdom from knowing history and not repeating the mistakes of the past. I seriously doubt that he knows who Bismarck, Trotsky, and Voltaire were. Or that he's read War and Peace or Tom Sawyer. He's probably never been to hear the New York Philharmonic or any symphony anywhere.

The more uncouth a person is, the more they believe themselves to be classy. He equates gold with class.

Just like how the Tiara Moms always call themselves "classy," when they are the antithesis of it.

on top of the Bonwit Teller Building? In this account, note the "fake news" element of the story---a spokesman for Trump named "John Barron", now known to be an alias Trump used when trying to bullshit the media, gives a quote disparaging the value of the sculptures after they had been destroyed:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/amphtml/news/the-fix/wp/2016/03/18/donald-trumps-first-media-controversy-is-a-really-great-story-just-a-really-fabulous-story/?client=ms-android-att-us

"....Two stone bas-relief sculptures high on the façade of the Bonwit Teller Building under demolition on Fifth Avenue — pieces that had been sought with enthusiasm by the Metropolitan Museum of Art — were smashed by jackhammers yesterday on the orders of a real estate developer.

Seems like not much has changed for Mr Trump. I was too young in 1980 to remember this episode but I does highlight his lack of interest or concern about anything outside of himself and his self interests.

He is both crass AND an asshole.

Interestingly enough, there is a Russian term for those who are uncultured - nekulturny. It is considered to be deeply insulting. Boorish. White trash.

I can't remember why I know this. Perhaps from reading Hedrick Smith's The Russians many years ago.

Trumplethinskin is most definitely nekulturny. The Russians are probably laughing at him behind his back.

I am also referring to him as pRezident - a well placed spy in the Oval Office

the South Park episode where "the bar" is set so low by American culture that it's actually at the bottom of the Mariana Trench? Cartman and Honey Boo Boo wrestle in spaghetti for the viewing pleasure of the president. James Cameron has to dive down in his Challenger Deep to bring the bar back up.

South Park was so prescient.

One of his major grievances is that, despite his wealth, he was never accepted by Manhattan society. In similar cases, the nouveau riche would, in fact, attempt to buy acceptance by showing up at, and funding, cultural endeavors. Trump seems to have focused on becoming richer.

They acquire great wealth but little cultural education, because their priority was making money.

Have you ever seen the garish monstrosities some put up as mansions?

Trump is a perfect example. He is a blue collar idea of what a rich person should be.
