General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsSeems like the GOP is only about taking things away.
Taking away things people want and need. Things that we already have but that they want to take from us.
Affordable health insurance that actually covers health problems? No, you can't have that.
Clean air and water? Nope.
National parks, forests and seashores? Sorry.
A living wage? Not that either.
Public television? No.
Support for art and music? Don't be silly.
Streams that aren't full of coal slurry? Nope.
Good, free public schools for everybody? Not a chance.
Low-cost college loans? Are you kidding?
Legal protection for minorities and LGTB people? No way.
Fair elections? No.
Protection of women's reproductive rights? Nope.
Safety and protection of immigrants and refugees from harassment and deportation? None of that.
And I don't get why. It has to be more than just money; public television and the National Endowment for Arts are a drop in the bucket. Deporting 11 million people will harm, not help the economy. Clean and water are good for business, and businesses benefit from an educated population. Is there something about GOPers that just makes them enjoy being mean and cruel to fellow citizens?

(45,806 posts)Medium tax cuts for the upper 10%, and for the lowest earners, THEY WILL GET a tax increase to pay for those other folks.
And that's NOT sarcasm!

Summed up the GOP 'unified' government's stance pretty well. Gotta have tax reduction for corporations and the 1% and the most expensive military in history.

(19,993 posts)of doing whatever they can to get rid of taxes and regulations--which tend to slow their rate of wealth accumulation and limit their dictatorial powers.
Some of their voters seem to be waking up, though, as evidenced by them rejecting the establishment Republicans in the primaries and now the angry town halls.

(5,499 posts)All of the things listed can be lumped into those three catagories. They key is that the frame the issues in such a way that leads the uneducated white voters into thinking that their lives will be made better.
Of course there is also the propaganda that any government help is an assault on freedom.
