Great op-ed from Kristof in the NYT's today. I particularly enjoyed this paragraph

"Trump howls at the news media, not just because it embarrasses him, but because it provides an institutional check on his lies, incompetence and conflicts of interest. But we can take his vitriol: When the time comes, we will write Trump’s obituary, not the other way around."

27. Is this supposed to be Kristof or the NYT?

I have a little nothing twitter account to which I occasionally post links to discussion of corruption and failures of the media. I will never forgive the NYT's readership-pandering sabotage of everything Hillary has done for a very long time, but it is still one of the planet's great sources of investigative journalism.

Thanks for the post, MichaelSoE. In spite of everything, good journalism is not dead and I believe Kristof is right. This is certainly what the Constitution intended when it included the press as an institution to be protected.

"Trump howls at the news media, not just because it embarrasses him, but because it provides an institutional check on his lies, incompetence and conflicts of interest. But we can take his vitriol: When the time comes, we will write Trump’s obituary, not the other way around."

I'm certainly not a Kristof fan, but he gets a lot right in this piece. I had to laugh at this paragraph:

But while you voted for Trump because you put faith in his gauzy pledges, I bet he will do no better with campaign promises than with marriage vows.

Not that I want the prezidunce to die...I would like him to suffer a good long while to experience what he is inflicting on others. But I will enjoy reading his obituary.

according to polls. He knows he is propagandizing, and is doing it to manipulate stupid people and people who want reality to be the way he describes it.

All men have an emotion to kill; when they strongly dislike some one they involuntarily wish he was dead. I have never killed any one, but I have read some obituary notices with great satisfaction.

I agree - I've never killed anybody, nor danced on anybody's grave, but I do take pleasure when somebody evil and corrupt dies.

When i read the title i read Krystol. But, the OP has the full name and when i saw Nicholas, i knew who had written that.

That said, i clicked on it thinking W Krystol might actually have said something smart. Now, that would have been a shock!
