It's not "the defense budget"...it's "the war budget"

We could easily defend this country and its allies from attack at a far lower price than we spend.

The funds devoted to "defense" in this country are about perpetual preparation for war...and those funds have never been significantly reduced from the levels they were at in the Cold War.

They are about keeping us in the arrogant and totally unneeded role of "superpower" for the rest of eternity.

There is no real difference between the word "superpower" and the word "empire". When your nation's leaders see your nation's role in the world as trying to make every other country do what they want, they are seeing the world with the eyes of a Caesar, a Tsar or a monarch. They are working under the assumption that the world exists solely for the superpower's national interest as the superpower sees it.

They are rejecting the basic ideas that any small-d democrat should agree to-that each nation has the right to set its own course, that the people of each nation should be able to use their country's wealth and resources as THEY see fit, that alliances should be alliances of equals, and that allies should be able to choose the path of peace instead of the path of war if they believe that path is best for their country.

Worst of all, they indulge the lethal delusion that anything they does militarily is automatically virtuous simply because it is OUR country doing it-a delusion held by every emperor and every tyrant in history.

We need to keep our country safe. We already have more than enough weaponry to do that for decades to come.

Any increase in the war budget now is meant solely to make other countries and other peoples less safe.

Especially in the hands of THIS emperor:
