I was not looking to have any pets after our last cat of 3 died. But a dog we ended up calling Shadow just showed up in our back yard one day. She ran into the house and landed on the couch. After days looking for possible owners we decided to keep her. She turned out to be a wonderful pet who was house trained and was never any kind of problem. And she was with us for 13 years.

Losing her in July in 2014 the same year I lost my left foot to a staph infection was so terrible. She had cancer that could not be operated on really. We spent a lot of money in the end to try to help her. No regrets. And losing that dog was worse than losing my foot at the time.

We never knew if Shadow was lost or had abandoned. Based on our experience she had a better thirteen years with us than she would have had with her former owners. We suspect she had been abused even though she was in good shape when she showed up at our door.
