General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe Republican Party is quickly falling into a black hole from which they cannot escape.
They are hoping and praying that none of the stories about Trump and the Russians are true. They are betting the farm that they are not true.
But, if they are, they have all their chips on the table. They have defended their President at every turn, regardless of the evidence presented. They have used distractions, diversions, and outright lies to keep the spotlight off the most-numbing allegations. So far, with the media proclivity to fall for every shiny diversion, they have been able to keep the hounds from the doors.
But, the truth has a way of coming into the light eventually. They will not be able to hide it. It will be in the open for all to see.
When that happens, they will be so far into the black hole, there will be no escape. It will then be too late to act. They are not simply gambling with America's survival, they are gambling with their own survival.

(10,602 posts)Since 1981 and Reagan I have been watching things go down hill. I have watch the GOP trash this country fully the entire time. I have hoped that people would wake up and now we have Trump and the GOP.

I think that they will get what they want, and the purists are just as much to blame for it as the those on the hard right.

If anything, the RW media and string-pullers/leash-tuggers have learned even more about how to jerk jerks.
Too bad the others (LW/liberals) haven't learned very much over the years. Or maybe these groups are just a feeble foil.

I want to believe that what you're saying is true, but I don't have any faith in about 50% of the people of this country to discern good from bad, fact from fiction and right from wrong.

(70,544 posts)..... goat on the capital steps @ noon and it could be broadcast live on CNN/Fox/MSNBC but
by the following morning "our liberal media" will be selling the "look how much republican love
animals" meme.
The GOP is doing that right now selling the non story that President Obama might have tapped
Trump's phone story and congress really needs to look into that controversy. Then they will sell
sure the Russians hacked and rigged our elections but the dems were dirty too.
The Russians were helping the republicans across the board last year and Mitch McShitlips and
Paul "zombie eyed granny starver" Ryan knew about that and used the Russia help too.

(5,955 posts)How many times did Frankenstein's monster keep coming back? (Or ANY zombie, for that matter.)
Most of us honestly thought that the GOP had disappeared down that black hole when the Party NOMINATED Trump. But then the zombie kept walking. No brains. No life. Just a hideous collection of resentments and bumper-sticker slogans in the SHAPE of a human being. And it's pretty hard to KILL something that's not really ALIVE in the first place. I'm serious about that last analogy. The GOP is no longer a party that represents a governing philosophy. It's a POLITICAL ZOMBIE. Just a collection of Pavlovian catch phrases, and resentment dog-whistle slogans, which is very difficult for Democrats to run against.
