A 42 second video that left me stunned. How can this be the same Nation I grew up in?

White house Budget Director tells press corp that free school lunches dont improve student performance. Its not just Meals on Wheels being shit canned. FREE school lunches are too.

During Reagan's first term, schools had to figure out how to meet nutritional standards under the $billion budget cut, and it was revealed that some USDA advisors suggested ketchup be considered a vegetable to make the scaled down lunches considered more nutritious.

www.childrenoftheforest.org

It's a wonderful charity. Really nice, dedicated people.

There are stateless children along the Burma-Thailand border who are targets for armed pickup trucks trying to scoop them up to be slave workers or sex slaves. It's not always easy to draw these kids out of hiding in the jungle.

So this charity has huts spread around in the jungle for schools and they offer a lunch. And the lunch is what draws the kids to come to school for the day because they would otherwise might not eat - it's often their only meal.

I find Mulvaney's words so repugnant.

I do not care for the word "hate". I'm not a hater. I try to find out why I don't like something. Hate is a last resort that I try to avoid.

I listen to this administration and find myself increasingly fighting off hatred. I never liked them before the election. But now, we're starting to see their true colors of racism, no compassion, greed, etc. They're going to kill more Americans than any administration in my lifetime. And it's increasingly hard to see how they can be stopped.

Thu Mar 16, 2017, 07:56 PM
Mar 2017

I teach.

I teach in the poorest part of West Virginia. 18 years Ive taught here. A lot like a 3rd World Country around here.

My first year of teaching I taught in the poorest school, in the poorest County. This is not an exaggeration, this is not an indictment, this is what has stayed with me for the past 18 years. Elementary school K-5, there were 98 total students in that school. And 92 of them got (qualified for) free school lunches. 92 out of 98. Those numbers have stayed with me for 18 years, and will stay with me forever. 92 out of 98.

A good portion of those 92 didnt get any other food on a regular basis. Its a long time from Friday noon to Monday morning breakfast. Especially when your 6 years old.

So its hard for me to watch that. I get emotional. I get mad as Hell.

How can this be the country I grew up in? Who are these Republican shit Heads. How can all those Republicans be this cruel?

She's really good at special ed - with troubled kids. She gets emotionally involved too. She just loves helping these kids. I'm as proud of her as anyone could be of somebody.

So thank you for what you do.

I do not understand it either. Most Republicans were not like this when I was growing up in the 50s-60s. They were conservative but not heartless.

I don't understand how one justifies spending so much on killing people with defense and weapons - way more than anyone else on the planet - and they're going to increase that - while tens of millions will be without healthcare, welfare, food stamps, kids lunches, meals on wheels, Planned Partenthood helping millions of women, etc. I read that list and get tears in my eyes imagining the suffering it is going to cause.

The healthcare cuts alone will kill 186,000 Americans by 2026 - that was the biggest reason I fought against Trump - so that wouldn't happen.

It's just brutal.

But that thought does not cause me to flag. It makes my voice louder, it makes me more talkative, it makes me stand and deliver. I live in the Trumpiest part of the United States. These people need to know. I feel that for most of the people I corner, I am the only time they hear good sense.

Republicans dont get their info from anywhere but Republican sources. Its my opinion that until we get our message to them, things will continue to deteriorate.

So thats what I do. (Not at school, of course) I wont abide Proseltyzing at school from anybody. Or any side.

I fought hard. Lost. Was ticked off. Crawled away to lick my wounds. Didn't know what I was going to do. I didn't like Hillary and I still don't.

Trump was supposed to lose the primary. It was just a passing thing. Folks would catch on to him and he'd flame out. etc. Remember?

When that didn't happen, I dusted myself off and crawled back to try to make sure he didn't win.

Boom. That didn't work out well at all. I crawled away to lick deeper wounds. I didn't post here for 15 weeks or so. Speechless. Couldn't believe it. Felt like it was stolen by the DNC and the Russians. I didn't seem to fit in anywhere.

As I reflected recently, I recalled how I felt when the Kennedys and MLK got shot. It was different but very low. Losing them felt like they were snatched away and we were cheated. And then Nixon got in. I couldn't believe such a liar could be elected president - kind of like I feel now.

My first gay rights fight was 1973-74. No matter what these pricks try to do, they're never going to take back all the ground gained. In the 60s, I never dreamed we could have a black president. And the reality of that man was better than any dream. Him holding that office and doing it the way he did is a product of those protests of the 60s.

There is a good thing about this. America is finally going to see these heartless assholes for what they really are. All the ICE in the world isn't going to change the inevitable of the shift in demographics. When Texas flips due to the Latinos down there, this garbage is over forever.

We have made some real progress. And in the long haul, we're going to win. They cannot stop us. What we're seeing is the last desperate but hopeless grasps clinging to power. And that is kind of a positive with all of this. Trump is bringing out the worst in the GOP and he's dooming them to the darker pages of our history. Unfortunately, he's going to kill a lot of innocent people before we get there and that's the hardest part for me.

...because many have been taught to believe that it is the undeserving (mostly non-white) children who are getting this support.

As Lyndon Johnson said, “If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.”

The dog whistle may well be the point of this measure.
