Who knows what's going to happen in the next three years or so? Someone who might look to be a good candidate right now could easily be a total disaster by 2019. If we lock ourselves into one candidate, or even three possibilities, very early, we lose the chance of responding swiftly to changing circumstances. I honestly think that's part of what went wrong with the 2016 election.
