Shouldn't the lying stop once the office is attained?
If we can't trust our presidents veracity, his/her ability to be forthright, factual and honest what have we said, admitted, about ourselves?
This president, if that is what he is, sooner or later is going put forth cause and reason for going to war. For those of you who forget, that means killing other people in YOUR name. That's what war is, the killing of other people in the collective OUR NAME. Every bomb, bullet and knife thrust has your imprimatur on it. Not just your permission, but your heart and soul.
So when our "President",valid or otherwise, demands we go and kill other people and says "here are the reasons WE need to do this" it is incumbent on US to understand that We are responsible. With that responsibility goes the requirement that we be able to trust the president.
Is this a president you are willing to trust? He is going to send your son/daughter/husband/wife to die in OUR war. And by the way, whom ever we attack, don't be surprised if they respond in kind. War is not a foreign adventure anymore. It can and will be in your front yard faster than you can ever imagine.
Do you really trust this man with your life and the lives of your family?

(448 posts)I think the problem is twofold:
1. There is an expectation that a certain degree of lying is part of the game in politics. So it's tolerated to a debatable degree with supporters. But, there is a fine line between a little "bait and switch" AND wholesale lying.
2. This is the very first time in presidential history that we've seen an elected official make outright lies that can easily be disproven with readily available facts and we see it in REAL TIME, without a delay of print or tv news. It's as if, he's found every possible loophole on everything from emoluments to nepostism.
But, it's also the first time we've seen a President accuse another of a felony in public with absolutely no basis of fact to support it. That in itself should be punishable.
Dolt45 literally reminds me of my great grandmother who was descending into dementia. She watched lots of tv and we could NOT convince her that the talking car on tv wasn't real (KITT from tv show Knight Rider). Debating with her was fruitless because her mind was convinced it was real and existed because she saw it on tv.

(1,549 posts)As it might be Bill Clinton lying about a blow job.
It really is all political and there was never any "rule of law" about it.
Not in Andrew Johnson's time and not now.
