1. Alt-Left, what a terrible demeaning of the word "left"

but I know why it is used, why you use it.

There is nothing "left" about them, nothing.

11. True, I should say "anti-left" or "trojan horse left" or something...

3. I wouldn't characterize Greenwald as a liberal. He is a self-serving libertarian asshole

4. This crap is why I can't stand the Young Turks either...

Sadly I haven't heard a single friend who was all over the Wikileaks /Guccifer / DNC email crap admit they were manipulated. It's no easier for lefties to admit than it is for RWers.

6. As an English instructor, I find appalling GG's frequent use of "very" within such a short space.

I don't let my undergraduates do that. Certainly a professional writer should know better.

8. Like Trump, they are in this for themselves. It has nothing to do with society as a whole.

The Greenwald/HA Goodman types are admittedly not a part of the left. They did posture themselves to make money off of LIV's on the left. Why not? They were easy marks.

12. He's right (Stoller)

This is going to come back and bite the Democrats when it turns out to be...nothing.

14. I remember when Flynn was supposed to be "nothing" and "clickbait", too

Guess you don't want to see Dems fight Trump directly...

And I'm hard-pressed to see any 'solutions' on Stoller's motherfucking TL... All I see for miles and miles is Dem bashing (Saint Bernie is exempt of course) and that tired-assed Greenwaldian tactic of being anti-anti Trump (i.e., criticizing anyone who criticizes Trump with both sites/whataboutism)

15. They fight him by denying Gorsuch his seat on the court.

They fight him by denying the Republicans health care plan. Those are things that affect people's lives. And that is how to win elections, not by deflecting the conversation to overheated claims of collusion with Russia. Hardly anybody cares about that, electorally speaking.

By all means, there should be investigations. I just doubt they will amount to much.

16. You can fight a war on multiple fronts

And I daresay that a foreign power (helped by useful idiots on the left like Stoller) brazenly and directly manipulating our elections and our government *does* affect our lives...

17. Just who is in this alleged "Alt-Left" and what are the criteria for inclusion?

My suggestion for an operational definition, based on how I've seen the term used:

"Someone is 'Alt-Left' if:
(1) he or she has some credentials as a progressive, and might therefore be taken seriously by some of my normal allies;, but
(2) has taken an action or espoused a position that I dislike; but
(3) I don't want to bother to make the case against that action or position based on the merits, or maybe I just can't, so I've decided to make up an ad hominem smear instead."

Obviously, I don't see the term as promoting intelligent discourse in any way.

20. +1

I find the term juvenile and petty

In fact, it's even beyond snark - there's no actual 'real' Left in the US to begin with

18. Oh, come, now.

I'm absolutely sure it'll end up that we ordinary folks are so utterly stupid that we failed to understand what Greenwald was saying, and are lying about it because we're Cold Warrior shills.

I'm absolutely sure about this because I've paid just enough attention (and no more) to Greenwald over the years to know this is how it'll pan out when reality bites him in the arse yet again.

19. This is divisive...no need to rub people's noses in it...email hysteria was used to divide us

during the election...and please let's not compare our left to the white supremacists on the right by calling our guys alt-left. I would delete this in the interest of unity... yes, I know you have every right to post it...but is it wise?

21. Greenwald has won the grand slam of conservative punditry

He has gotten praise and/or glowing softball interviews from Drudge, Carlson, Beck, and now Limbaugh:
