They fight him by denying the Republicans health care plan. Those are things that affect people's lives. And that is how to win elections, not by deflecting the conversation to overheated claims of collusion with Russia. Hardly anybody cares about that, electorally speaking.

My suggestion for an operational definition, based on how I've seen the term used:

"Someone is 'Alt-Left' if:
(1) he or she has some credentials as a progressive, and might therefore be taken seriously by some of my normal allies;, but
(2) has taken an action or espoused a position that I dislike; but
(3) I don't want to bother to make the case against that action or position based on the merits, or maybe I just can't, so I've decided to make up an ad hominem smear instead."

Obviously, I don't see the term as promoting intelligent discourse in any way.
