I've been a DUer for many years and am sick of the prejudice against the South and the place where I was born. I was born at the Naval Hospital in Beaufort, SC--Parris Island to be exact. My (very liberal) parents raised me with critical thinking skills and taught me to try to treat everyone with respect. And Trey Gowdy is a piece of shit.

My grandmother retired to Western NC, Black Mountain, near Asheville, so I spent a lot of time there. Not only is it beautiful country, but it's a great area for art and music - besides being progressive. I met a lot of her friends and some were transplants, but not all of them, and not necessarily from the north, either. I had a rare opportunity, I joined my grandmother and her peace group from Black Mountain on a trip to their "sister city" in the USSR - shortly before it fell. They were all senior citizens except for one lady - and me - and I loved every single one of them. One woman I became good friends with was from the deep south, Alabama, I think. Our Russian guide was fluent in English, but she had trouble understanding Nancy since she had such a strong Southern accent.

I'm also in New York and I have to believe that the reason we're considered a "blue state" is because of downstate. I can't say I know any Trump voters among my friends, but before the election last fall I took a drive a little way up north to visit a friend who lives in a beautiful log cabin next to a stream, pretty remote. Of course I got lost and had trouble getting a cell phone connection. So I did a lot of driving around and couldn't believe all the Trump signs! They were all over! And I hadn't even seen one where I live. I was too nervous to ask for directions, but it finally got through to me that there really were people who were voting for Trump!
