Maher's panel last night on Comey

Tbh I have a better impression of Comey now. I had forgotten about the leaks from the FBI's New York "Trumplandia" bureau. I didn't know there was an investigation into people communicating with Flynn and Giuliani (hopefully not the bullshit "investigations" that PDs do on their corrupt officers, but at least it's something). I distinctly remember Giuliani on live television bragging about being cued to the emails and communicating that with Trump. Could the investigation be a reason that he's fallen into the shadows alongside Christie (ironically also under investigation)?

To play devil's advocate: at the time his reasoning was unsound, but perhaps not his intentions, as he weighed the public receiving the news through leaks against sending a letter to congress (who aren't supposed to be chucklefuck blabbermouths about it). I don't think he believed that the media would go batshit over the letters either, because they shouldn't have, just like with the emails. Disproportionate coverage. The entire media machine during that election was fucked up.

Although I don't know how to justify how sending the letter to only the republican members of congress? I remember hearing something about that.

The basis for not condemning him was the very professional manner in which my POTUS, Barack Obama acted after the comey letter. I have to trust BO when he stood behind comey and said he was an honorable man. I do not believe comey would have sent that letter if he had any other choice.

And remember, he was also investigating the trump campaign since July 2016 but said nothing at all about that.

So let's get real. He's investigating both campaigns but only reveals he's investigating Clinton.

Doesn't take rocket science to figure out which side he was on.

He's not to be trusted.

And Comey has a job, a job that doesn't afford time to monitor the hyper-partisan hysteric obsession that the MSM had with those emails. He didn't predict that outcome. In fact after the initial reaction he realized he fucked up and "misread the room", hence the second letter.

Let's see, what's more important for our country's voters to know and to a free and fair election — a presidential campaign colluding with our worse adversarial nation to influence the outcome of our presidential election, or the other candidate having used bad judgement years ago for having a not illegal private server to handle her emails?

Voters needed to know about the trump investigation more than we needed to know about yet another investigation into Hillary's damn emails.

That's no-brainer territory.

Think!

Not happening. Comey had to send that letter to congress. He didn't hold a press conference and try to make a big deal out of it. If you don't believe Comey has any integrity, then you don't trust President Obama and you sure have no hope that Drumpf will ever go down. I may indeed be wrong. Maybe Comey is as dirty as they come. If so, I will be sorely disappointed in Obama, and will have lost all hope that there is any real good dirt on Drumpf that will see the light of day.

For now I am sticking with President BO's judgement.

Comey never divulged that he was also investigating trump.

IN NO EFFIN' WAY IS IT FAIR THAT HE DELINES TO RECCOMMEND PROSECUTION OF CLINTON DURING THE SUMMER AND SEVERLY CHASTISES HER PUBLICLY, THEN IN OCTOBER REVEALS A NEW CLINTON INVESTIGATION 11 DAYS BEFORE THE ELECTION EVEN THOUGH HE HASN'T EVEN LOOKED AT THE ALLEGED "NEW" EMAILS, WHILE DURING THE SAME MONTHS-LONG TIME PERIOD HE IS INVESTIGATING trump FOR POSSIBLY COLLUDING WITH THE RUSSIANS TO INFLUENCE OUR ELECTION.

Let's see, what's more important for our country's voters to know, and to a free and fair election — a presidential campaign colluding with our worse adversarial nation to influence the outcome of our presidential election, or the other candidate having used bad judgement years ago for having a not illegal private server to handle her emails?

That's a no-brainer in any sentient being's book yet Comey chose to re-investigate Clinton days before the election (he's no fool. He knew that would go public) while still sitting on the news that he's been investigating trump and his campaign for multiple ties and collusion with Putin and other Russians?

I for one am not that gullible that I believe he was acting in good faith and it was more important for voters to know yet again about Hillary's damn emails, or that the trump camp was under investigation for working with Putin to swing the election to trump. Let me repeat that — the trump camp was under investigation for working with Putin to swing the election to trump.

And I also don't consider President Obama's faith in Comey sacrosanct. He may have been trying to stay out of it but maybe he should have gotten involved in saving us and the nation from the disastrous trump presidency.

Apparently Comey is a narcissist, but not malicious. He was acting "in good faith"; just his own. He wasn't trying to do anything. Basically his thought process was "my judgement is right, I don't care what it does to your silly little election, I don't care what this looks like, I'm the goddamn director of the FBI, fuck you".

Which is the exact type of person I want handling the Russia investigation. It also means he has an ego, and Trump&co's constant derision of the intelligence community is likely to conflict with that ego.

The only way that I have been able to justify what comey did is as follows.

He sent the letter to congress because it looked better than having it leaked by rogue agents. He didn't hold a presser to to divulge it to everyone. Congressrat ChaffedNutz did that particular dirty deed.

Comey got the info out that HRC was clear of wrongdoing BEFORE the actual election. He certainly could have let the cloud hang past nov. 8.

He didn't disclose the turd Trump investigation because that is how he is supposed to do it, so I want to believe that he sent the letter to congress in an attempt to keep the leak from coming out and undermining his authority. Had comey allowed the leak to hit the news and HRC went on to win, there would have been RWNJs screaming that comey covered for HRC "again." If it leaked and HRC still lost, comey looks like he is comprised and all the info we are getting now on trump would have been comey lies according to RWers. I dunno but I swear that is the most logical assement from my feeble mind. Thanks for reading my thoughts. I could be wrong but I hope Comey is on our side.

If Giuliani or Flynn had said it, it would have been just more campaign rhetoric and people would have tuned it out. After all, they were just a couple of political flacks and not in a position to know.

Once Comey said it, it became wisdom of the ages on engraved stone tablets because he was heading the FBI. Wow! There was really something there! The FBI said so!

Get the difference?

the SECOND whitewater BS inquisition, which followed after they FIRED the first guy because he demonstrated that there was no there there

has everybody defending this crooked, right wing tool conveniently forgotten that?

and what about this, in which his completely inexplicable, unprofessional behavior is unmasked, when he's forced to admit exactly how many emails were classified:

If you’re like most Americans, you don’t know that when Comey testified, he was forced to walk back his assertion that the FBI found three (out of 30,000) documents marked “classified” among her emails.

Were they properly marked? Rep. Matt Cartwright (D-PA) asked.

“No,” Comey answered.

So wouldn’t the absence of such markings “tell her immediately that those three documents were not classified?”

“That would be a reasonable inference,” Comey said.

In other words, contrary to the FBI director’s grandstanding press conference and a million Republicans chanting “Hillary lied,” there were zero documents marked classified on her server. Not one.

So was Comey dissembling during his press conference? Or had he made an honest error? Pundits like Purdum know better than to ask. He never acknowledged Comey’s walk back. No, the real issue was Hillary’s “sloppiness,” and her forgetting Comey used that exact word.
