Arnold Schwarzenegger schools Internet troll who mocked Special Olympics

Arnold Schwarzenegger turned an offensive comment about the Special Olympics that someone left on his Facebook page into a “teachable moment” this week.

The comment came in response to a video the former bodybuilding champion posted Thursday to his page congratulating the winners of the Special Olympics World Games held earlier this week in Austria, where Schwarzenegger is from.

Schwarzenegger appears in the video message that also features the text, “These guys inspire me!”

The video has attracted more than 400,000 views and drawn hundreds of comments, but not all of them were kind. One, in particular, referred to Special Olympians using a derogatory term and questioned the need for the Special Olympics at all.

“You have two possible paths ahead. Right now, I guarantee you that these athletes have more courage, compassion, brains and skill — actually more of every positive human quality than you.


“So take their path — you could learn from them, and try to challenge yourself, to give back, to add something to the world. Or you can stay on your path, and keep being a sad pitiful jealous internet troll who adds nothing to the world but mocks anyone who does out of small-minded jealousy.

“I know that all you really want is attention, so let me be clear. If you choose to keep going this way, no one will ever remember you.”

3. He's right

I know, we aren't supposed to agree with anything repukes say, but I did some work with special needs kids a few years ago and they are as good athletically than most other people. In fact, they are better than most people, bot athletically and in spirit. See, I have a cousin who is a "special needs" man and he loves basketball. He's a Bulls fan, which is another story for another time, lol, but he recently got talked into actually playing in a league of sorts. He's a starter and doing very well.

4. Arnold is not your garden variety Republican

He has always been fairly progressive, and probably only joined the Republican party because when he started out in politics that was the obvious winning move at the time. But he has never been silent about his dissatisfaction with the more cruel policies of "his" party, and his movies have tended to project progressive principles. I suspect he is only still putting the R after his name because he hopes he can influence the party in a better direction, but we may live to see him brush it off and come to the other side.
