(22,978 posts)...to quash the platform plank standing up for Ukraine against Russia?? It was the only plank they cared about, and they were adamant that it had to be kept out! That fits right in with the claim by the Steele memo that Drumpf was co-operating with Russia to sabotage the Clinton campaign.
Seals the deal for me, and I know there's more! This basturd's gotta go down! . .

(127,251 posts)Unidentified Speaker >> THANK YOU MR. CHAIR. MY AMENDMENT WOULD STRIKE OUT THE LANGUAGE TO THE EVENT -- THE REASON FOR STRIKING OUT THIS LANGUAGE IS RONALD REAGAN DID A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF WORK TO TRY TO KEEP US OUT OF A HOT WAR WITH RUSSIA. WE SHOULD KEEP IN MIND RUSSIA IS A NUCLEAR SUPERPOWER AND WHAT WE ARE SPILLING OUT HERE, SANCTIONS AND ARMING THEIR ENEMIES, THOSE ARE ACTS OF WAR. AND UNLESS WE ARE PREPARED TO GO TO WAR WITH A NUCLEAR SUPERPOWER, I THINK WE NEED TO BE A LOT MORE CAUTIOUS ABOUT DECLARING OUR INTENTION TO DO OF WAR AGAINST THEM. SO I THINK THIS STATEMENT IS OVERLY AGGRESSIVE AND I DO NOT THINK IT IS IN THE BEST INTEREST OF OUR NATION TO BE DECLARING THIS, IN SO I RECOMMEND WE STRIKE THIS LANGUAGE FROM THE PLATFORM.
Unidentified Speaker >> THE AMENDMENT CALLS FOR STRIKING LINES 32-35. CHAIRMAN OF THE COMMITTEE?
Unidentified Speaker >> WE DEBATED THIS FULLY YESTERDAY DURING THE MEETING AND IT WAS DEFEATED AND I WOULD ASK THAT WE DEFEATED AGAIN TODAY. AND YOU. ASK DELEGATE FROM NEW YORK.
Unidentified Speaker >> CYCLE IN QUESTION. QUESTION HAS BEEN CALLED. I WANT TO VOTE IMMEDIATELY. THE MOTION IS UP FOR DEBATE. ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF THE MOTION FROM THE DELEGATE...
The CSPAN-recorded proceedings mentioned above from the day before, were corrupted (although still available but without a transcript), but I was able to find the above 2nd attempt to change that amendment... The link goes right to the portion where the above takes place.

(3,562 posts)Mainly... who did they get to introduce this change?
The "unidentified speaker" above is Maine State Senator Eric Brakey. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Brakey
Why him??
He just did this of his own volition? I seriously doubt it.
And this was the second attempt? And the proposal to strike it was soundly defeated here.
It took three (or more?) attempts to soften the language on Russia in the platform?
Is there no video or transcript of them actually approving the amended language?
Who introduced the language that passed?
BumRushDaShow
(127,251 posts)and haven't had time to get through it all yet to find the final votes. I think much of the earlier stuff was done in the video where the sound was completely mistracked from the video portion (and thus there is no transcript of the proceedings). It's also possible that the final votes were not recorded by CSPAN but am not sure yet..

(3,562 posts)It really hasn't been reported on thoroughly.
I had no idea the change took multiple attempts. It was clearly defeated in the video you link to above.
And given how this administration operates, I think it is important to know which RNC delegates worked with them to get the language softened. And how did they convince all those "nay" voters to change?
Incidentally, in the relevant section of the video, no names are given by the chair, whereas he does give names when they are on other issues. He simply refers to "the delegate from Maine." I'm not suggesting that this was a conspiracy. Probably just a coincidence that the only name I was interested in wasn't given. I could see that the delegate's first name was "Eric" from his nametag. Had to look up a list of Maine delegates and look up multiple Maine delegates named Eric to ID him. Brakey was Maine's state director for Ron Paul in 2012 and led a walkout of some Maine delegates at the 2012 RNC. I gather that he also considers himself an actor. He danced in a Speedo in a commercial for coconut water.
I'd be interested in knowing if you discover more.
This deserves its own thread.

Just think long and hard about what happened at the DNC during the primary season and what your suspected individuals have been up to publicly since then. They have been very transparent - like the rest of the agents in this operation.

It seems logical enough that there might be one or two, unfortunately.
