Article Raw Story: Melania is being asked to leave NY City

http://www.rawstory.com/2017/03/melania-trumps-being-asked-to-leave-the-big-apple/

snip of article:

Nearly 50,000 people had signed a Change.org petition by Tuesday morning demanding First Lady Melania Trump move in with President Donald Trump in their new White House presidential pad in an effort to reduce the costly taxpayer expense of protecting the first family as they live in separate states.

New York City has been footing a daily bill from $127,000 to $146,000 so the first lady can continue living in her $100 million Trump Towers penthouse, according to New York Police Commissioner James O'Neil. The cost surges to more than $300,000 to secure the 58-story building each day the president visits his family.

There are other posters here who've offered a correction. And they're right. The Obamas moved WITH their school-age daughters, to the White House.

Perhaps you're thinking of the Obamas NOT leaving Washington until their youngest daughter's high school years are completed? That is certainly true. But they're private citizens now, and their eight years living in OUR White House have officially been completed. Wherever they live from now on is on THEIR nickel, not that of the taxpayers.

But actually, all presidents receive lifetime secret service protection, along with their spouses. Children until they're 16. They can decline it if they want to.

The only ex-pres to decline was Nixon, after 11 years. Maybe he hoped someone would come and put him out of his misery. Or he knew no one would have the mercy to put him down like the irreparably damaged animal he was.

The Carters, both Bush families, the Clintons, and the Obamas are all under secret service protection.

missing the boat sometimes.

I don't know if you're old enough to remember the Ed Sullivan Show. If so, you may already know what particular act I'm about to describe, but if not...

Every so often, Ed Sullivan, who ruled Sunday nights on CBS with his big-time variety show, would book this act that involved a guy standing behind a row of tall poles, mounted to the floor. He had as many china plates as he had poles. His act involved spinning a plate on the tip of the first pole, and then, once it was spinning smoothly, he moved on to the next pole and set another plate to spinning on its tip. He repeated this all the way down the row of maybe nine or ten poles until all of them had spinning plates on top, and then he'd race back to the first pole to rescue its plate from running out of speed and wobbling towards its crash-to-the-ground death.

And so on. It quickly became high drama - OMG! Is our hero gonna get back to the first one so it doesn't fall? The orchestra, in the meantime, was furiously playing Khachaturian's Saber Dance through the whole bit.

By the end of the act, you were freakin' EXHAUSTED, just watching this guy! Even though he somehow NEVER failed, and never dropped a single plate. Kept 'em all spinning, throughout.

That's how I suspect the working press feels, trying to stay on top of all this trump shit that starts spinning out of control from the wee hours onward, EVERY day.

"A rather silly petition?"

How about a million dollars a week, plus the impact it has on people who actually lived and ran businesses there before Trump became President?

Everything you heard? Is that the same as many people are saying? I also heard that Melania was going to make it her personal mission to combat cyber-bullying. Haven't heard anything about that yet, though.

It's not pretty typical for a First Lady to spend 5 to 6 months...minimum...in a $100 million penthouse with a weekly $1 million cost for protecting her. Although, if you want to post information to the contrary, with a link, I'll be happy to look at it.

"They're planning to move in June" means one of two things...they are actually going to move in June, or saying that they are going to do it keeps the public and the media quiet until June, when they do or don't. It's Trump 101. He was also going to repeal and replace ObamaCare on "Day 1." How did that work out?

This is neither petty nor stupid. $1 million dollars a week could keep some of the programs Trump is defunding up and running.

I'll believe the "they're planning to move in June" thing when I see it. Even if it happens, it's still $20 million thrown out the window.

I don't think there's been a solid dollar cost on how much money it takes to keep the the 10 year old and Birther Third Lady in tRumputin tower, but I bet my last breath it's not cheap. Hopefully, it'll only be until June. If longer than that, then tRumputin ought to hit up his oligarch buddies to chip in and keep the 10 year old and the Birther Third Lady installed in tRumputin towers

It doesn't specify how much is local vs national funding. Which kind of irked me when I read it at first. It just says "taxpayers" which is true but disingenuous feeling. You know?

This won't be a mega signed petition because of that I bet. Democrats are smart and don't like being made to feel like they're being played. Which this made me feel just a little bit when I read it.

Or, I'm off base and reading more into it than I should. Which we know I can do!

Congress needs to pass a law that forces Trump to reimburse New York and the United states for the costs of securing Melania and Barron Trump at Trump Tower and the older Trump kids when they travel for business related trips. I am pretty certain the Trump's could have moved Barron to Washington, D.C. in order to go to school. What is everyone else doing? Kellyanne Conway moved to D.C. Ivanka Kushner moved to Washington, D.C. What did the Obama's do when President Obama won the 2008 election?

Imagine if Michele and the girls stayed in Chicago during the school year. The nasty stuff that would have been said about her would have been racist, sexist and misogynist. For sure the Rethugs would have passed a law saying the nation could only cover one residence at a time. Her protection would have been eliminated from the budget. They would say it was her decision to stay in Chicago, so the Obama would have to provide their own protection. The hypocrisy is so overwhelming.

I pity her for having to live and have sex (ugh) with a limp moldy carrot. We can assume that she is an abused woman, given to whom she is married and the testimony of previous wives. She has probably been used and misused most of her life and deserves empathy and sympathy. For whatever reason, it is difficult for abused women to see options, especially when they have children.
On the other hand, this is a woman who used what resources she had, her looks, to gain social and economic advantages. If she had chosen a more traditional business career she would be praised for rising to the top. There are things to admire about her.
I do think it is obvious she has little to do with her husband's affairs (economic and otherwise). My impression is that she just wants to survive intact and my impulse is to give her a pass. Let's not judge her as whore or madonna. She's just doing the best she knows how.
