Men look good in mini-shorts. Or so would suggest the unusual amount of leg seen on the menswear catwalks in Paris this week, but experts say skimpy shorts have little chance of making it in the real world.
US-style bermuda pants -- shorts in a longer and wider version -- have been in style for years. But this week's spring-summer shows also saw much smaller variations, intended for town as opposed to sport or beachwear.
At the Belgian designer Raf Simons, all but a handful of the looks were built around shorts cut high on the thigh, slashed at one side and paired with clean white shirts and jackets, black patent brogues or sneakers.
Likewise at the British tailor Hardy Amies, which made its Paris debut this week, designer Claire Malcolm sent out tailored shorts, with a bermuda-style turn-up but cut at mid-thigh.
"There's no question this is a trend," said the luxury industry consultant Jean-Jacques Picart.

The hot pants look is mostly for the runway - you'll see something different in the stores.
Young guys? They'll be out there with the look so they don't look like tired geezers.

Remember, ladies, when basketball players used to wear those snug-fitting little short shorts? I used to be a big basketball fan back then. These long, baggy shorts they wear today: well, the guys just don't look cute in them. C'mon fellas, we want to see a little tush.
(Only slight sarcasm being employed here: Part of this is instruction to the males among us who don't get what it's like to be objectified. On the other hand, I'm serious.)

(3 posts)The guitarist doesn't look too worried about how people will judge his choice of clothes. I bet he worries about comfort so he will perform at his best. The cutoff shorts I wore looks similar to his shorts, even the thread hanging on the cut area at the bottom.

(5,477 posts)Two years ago, I was getting sick of 9"-11" inseams that seemed standard on mass produced shorts. This year, I was able to find some 6" inseams that fit real nice (they are a lot cooler too). They are not super short, but they show much more leg than baggy cargo shorts that are so over. Also, if you weighlift, you understand how much effort goes into legs... everybody hates squats. I've been training hard and was blessed with a nice booty.. time to show it off a bit!

I had a long denim shorts cut so as to be short but not exposing the buttocks. It exposes much of the thigh and therefore there is more leg exposed to any breeze out there. Any male who is more worried about comfort than about style should wear shorts shorter than one inch above the knee.
