Serious Question: How does one start a PAC?

Note: Aside from the obvious answer of "1) have a truckload of money."

Are there legal hoops with the FEC? Any state legal hoops?

Are there special trust accounts that need to be set up?

What does the "committee" part entail? Just one person, or do others need to be recruited?

Is there any good written/on-line reference material on the topic?

Steven showed how easy and how profitable the process is back around February or March (if memory serves).

All it requires is a couple of forms and your signature.

They will tell you how to start an how to set up a pac. If you spend one thousand dollars or more, you have disclose and report your finances.

Is this for a state and local candidate? Then, contact your state board of elections. If it is not federal, you do not have to deal with the FEC. In fact, you should start at the state level. They will help you. In Illinois, candidates who raise less than three thousand dollars do not have to report to the state. Your state may be different.

A committee has to have a head person and a treasurer. They can be the same person. Call your state board of elections about this, too.
