I was heading back home from work at a job site when I saw a car with an interesting bumper sticker.
It said, "Lord, please save us from Obamacare".
I laughed a bit, but then I did a double take when I saw the license plate. It had a handicapped emblem on it. The owners of the vehicle are on disability and probably on Medicaid.
I can imagine them screaming about that darn socialized medicine.
on edit: It is possibe they are not on Medicare or Medicaid. This was my own assumption and I could very well be wrong.

(14,400 posts)at work some weird guy with a pile of Ayn Rand and anti Obama stickers on his POS old Buick. His entire car was an ad for the Randian "philosophy" but he had a handicap sticker and a primo parking spot right outside his entrance. This wasn't just a handicap spot, this was a custom made spot even closer than the handicap spots.
I never really knew the guy, but spoke with him once as he was walking out with me. He was keeping up pretty well for a guy that needed to park closer than any of the other handicapped folks. He didn't seem too impressed when I started to rail against the "parasites" taking up the good parking spots when I clearly arrived at work earlier in the morning and as such deserved to take that spot.

(31,849 posts)Living in Arizona, I see probably 5 or 6 of those bumperstickers everytime I go to the grocery store. They are always attached to SUVs or pick-up trucks, parked in the handicap spaces, and belong to drivers well into their 60s.
I, once, asked one of these drivers, "Why? What is it that the Lord is supposed to be saving you from?"
And after listening to a verbatim recitation of fox"news" talking points. I asked her, "You do realize that if you already have health insurance, ObamaCare will not affect you. Right?"

(32,723 posts)You do realize that you are believing the same people that told you Iraq was behind 9/11, don't you?
If they're loyal FOX "News" viewers they will claim Iraq WAS behind 9/11.
At that point, laugh at them.

I was told by one like that he hopes they kill Social Security, because the people retiring now will take too much from the system, and he won't get all that he's supposed to.
He's been retired for thirty-three years. I think the numbers for him are that he's already got back at least twice what he has paid into S.S.

(32,723 posts)There are places out there where there is no nurse or medical professional at all who are getting paid as a hospice when all they are is a boarding house. The Republicans took the section that deals with those places that have been gouging the government for years and calling the resulting savings "Cuts to Medicare".
I really hate these people.

It's like they want the government to play 'keep-away' with societal benefits from all those that they dislike for whatever reason.

To get $1,200 a month in Social Security when she retires soon. Her husband and her medical is now from his military service, so that's different from the blacks and illegals getting it, her former complaint.
Before, her health insurance kept her from getting a hysterectomy doctors begged them to approve for some years. She'd bleed so much she had to be taken to the ER three times to get plasma and finally lost most of her blood and had to get a transfusion the third time. She nearly died from the greed of the insurance company.
Yet, with all of that, the insurance still turned down the surgery, and sent her home, but a week later agreed. I'm sure her employer insurance would have preferred she died. Over the years, she and her husband lost a small fortune in their private retirement account 401Ks by having to withdraw with penalties, to pay for medical bills. But she had a lot of bad thoughts about how people were getting SS and Medicaid and figured it was going to take money from her.
I've stopped talking to her for my health, as she'd scream over me when I said I did not want to talk about politics. She knew I didn't agree, but was calling to see how SHE was doing, not the latest rabid foam from Glenn Beck. With baggers, everyone MUST agree - and not only agree, but enthusiastically!
Last wacky comment was on the $1,200 a month pension she's expecting. She said that NO ONE, NOT ANYONE should ever get ONE DIME MORE than $1,200 a month, because that's what she was getting. If they were sent more, they should be FORCE to send it back to pay the deficit down...
There were a couple things I didn't bring up, as I didn't want to get into it and I'll just mention one to show how nutty it all is.
Her husband wen to the VA to get life saving surgery on his spine. He was paralyzed to the point of being on a ventilator and the surgeon saved his life. So, do you think the specialist who saved his life, went to college for years, maybe had student loan debt and all the other things that doctors go through to enter the field, deserve, even if they paid more, to only get $1,200?
At that point, she almost sounded like a Communist to me and I realized that she was just lost. Just gone around the bend, no coming back from there, not ever...

(11,304 posts)is 11 yrs old who has severe disabilities because the natural mother abused drugs. He is in and out of the hospital. He was on Medicaid then they took him off. The natural grandfather was married to the grandmother who isn't his natural mother. She adores this child and takes good care of him. The grandfather is out of the picture now. He is suppose to help pay for insurance. He doesn't because he got into a bad motor cycle accident. She doesn't have a high paying job but tries her best to pay. After so many months he gets back on Medicaid. That really helps them. I really don't know what will happen to him if they start playing around with peoples health. I don't think this young man will live to be 21. Honestly I just don't know how she does it. He can't talk and is completely unable to walk. He is such a beautiful child.

(2,577 posts)Who spent the better part of the phone call damning Obamacare. The man has been battling very serious cancer for YEARS and would never get health care coverage again if he lost his current job without ACA in his corner.
He can't see past himself. HE deserves good health insurance (he works!!), but apparently he "can't afford" anything for anyone else.
I have come to hate Faux Noise and how it has preyed on the selfish in all of us.

(3,927 posts)Sorry, but it's a false assumption to assume that they're on any of those. I've had MS for 26 years and I worked and had good health insurance through my work for most of those 26 years.....and I had (and needed) a disabled parking pass for about the last 20 of those 26 years. I'm just using me as one example but you seriously can't make that assumption because it's really, really not true.

(5,325 posts)Based on what do you draw the assumption that these people are either collecting disability or are on Medicaid? I know plenty of people who have handicap stickers who work full-time and have insurance that goes with it. There are at least two who meet those criteria in my own department at work.
The bumper sticker is something else altogether.

These are regularly abused, and require the presence of ever more spaces to accommodate those folks who really do need them.
