Generally speaking humans hate change

I have noticed this since I was a kid.

Anyone else ever notice this?

My union negotiated the beginnings of a 4-day workweek back in 1979. Started off with one extra day per month off and that was supposed to eventually turn into a true 4-day, 8 hours per day 32 hour workweek.

Know something? We used to have guys coming to work on their days off. They wouldn't get any extra money for being at work that day. Just lose the gas to get to work and go back home. I heard the the supervisor reminding them that it was their scheduled day off and they didn't need to be there And they still wouldn't leave. They would work 8 hours just like every other day. On their day off.

Hope I don't bore you guys with all these stories.

Don

than others - some people actually welcome change (at least most change), but on some level, I think humans are hardwired to resist at least some change. There is a relation between this and personality (ie Myers Briggs profiles), and between this and politics, of course (conservatives like to conserve things just the way they are/were - even if it is just a mirage for them).

Look at the DU2 to DU3 change - we saw a good bit of resistance here even among liberal/progressive folks who likely handle change pretty well overall!

I worked in Pharma for 25 years and saw lots of change (mainly through so-called mergers of equals, which were anything but)....even something like the change of email from Outlook to Lotus Notes (a really horrible change in my view) was met with howls of resistance.

A fascinating topic...and I am one of those who really enjoys change!
