President Obama Consoles Woman Whose Uninsured Sister Died Of Colon Cancer
President Obama stopped shaking hands for a moment today so that he could embrace a sobbing woman whose uninsured sister recently died of colon cancer.
The sister of Stephanie Miller, from Sandusky, OH, would have been covered if Obamacare were fully implemented when she got sick. Instead, the woman was left without insurance and couldnt get the health care she needed. According to a report from the event, President Obama offered Miller his condolences:
As the president was working the rope line, he consoled a crying woman who was telling him a story. Pool reached the woman, Stephanie Miller, by phone and got these details.
Ms. Miller said her sister, Kelly Hines, died from colon cancer four years ago because she could not afford proper health insurance. She had no employer-provided coverage

(343 posts)Barack Obama is a wonderful person.....he really cares, truly cares, about those who are "hurting". He relates well to people of all backgrounds and circumstances. Michelle Obama is cut from the same cloth. I deeply admire both of them.

They thrive on anger, such a shame.

(1,448 posts)Maybe we need a quilt of names of those who have died because of stalling and not improving the PP ACA. These deaths are a disgrace that should be hung around the necks of McConnelly and Boehner.
Not that they would care...

(2,918 posts)She died one year ago. She had cancer diagnosed at the ER. Then she was "treated" by the County health department. It was five months before she received a chemo treatment. It was too late.
She was 54.

(912 posts)It is so sad that she died at 54 and did not receive the care she needed in time to help her. Let us hope that someday situations such as hers do not occur in this country.

(81,467 posts)As would all those "lovely," "moral," "more Christian than thou" types who sneer at the very idea of empathy. They laugh and scorn and deride, and regard it as a sign of weakness. Ruled by their simplistic predatory lizard brains, I guess.

(51,698 posts)I recently tried to reason with a critic of the ACA on this site by repeatedly pointing out the lives it would save. They insisted it was a "minor political victory for a small group" and "not worth giving the 1%" the "the keys to the ranch" by way of the mandate.

That anyone, especially a progressive, can think the ACA was "not worth it" just blows my mind. It makes me really sad for our country. Sometimes it feels like I'm talking to a brick wall...even on this site.

(809 posts)the 30 million uninsured, are NOT THE ISSUE."
Americans who lost a family member because they died from not having insurance, need to make commercials holding a picture of their loved one. They need to ask that rat bastard mcconnell to explain how the loss of a valued and loved human being, so the blood-sucking INSURANCE COMPANIES CAN MAKE MORE PROFIT, is an American value.
Pretty angry, here.

(20,043 posts)this has to do with what kind of MAN he is. Other than Bill Clinton, I can't think of another President that would let some strange woman blubber and snot all over them like this. This is goes to character.
Yes I know he's running for a second term, but you just can't turn this kind of shit on and off.

(3,619 posts)unfortunately, there are too many of these stories in America. I am thankful to have a President who understands, cares, and has taken action to help put an end to stories like these.
