NBC’s Ayman Mohyeldin: Chris Kyle’s ‘Racist Tendencies’ May Have Caused ‘Killing Sprees’

Source: Mediaite.com

NBC foreign correspondent Ayman Mohyeldin raised eyebrows on Thursday when he suggested Chris Kyle, the real-life protagonist behind the film American Sniper, might have had “racist tendencies” that caused him to go on “killing sprees."

“If you don’t know anything about Chris Kyle, if you don’t know this was a true story, this was a great movie,” Mohyeldin said. “But, when you juxtapose it with the real Chris Kyle in the story and what has emerged about what kind of personality he was in his own words — very far from reality.”

Mohyeldin suggested that the real Kyle may have had “racist tendencies” which could have caused him to go on “killing sprees.” Joe Scarborough was taken aback by those claims.

Mohyeldin expanded: “When he was involved on assignments, and in terms of what he was doing, a lot of the description that has come out from his book and some of the terminology that he has used, people have described as racist in his personal attitudes about what he was doing overseas when he was on assignment.”

I believe there was a New York Magazine story that backs some of this up as well...

To sell this jingoistic narrative of this “straight shooter” of an American hero, conveniently left out his multiple uncorroborated and unsubstantiated claims of bravado, including sniping 30 looters from the roof of the post-Katrina Louisiana Superdome, killing two carjackers in Texas and knocking out the former Minnesota governor in a barroom brawl. http://www.thestar.com/opinion/letters_to_the_editors/2015/01/29/snipers-narrative-jingoistic.html

But as a Turkish proverb says: "He who speaks the truth, is run out of seven villages."

Shameless liars, on the other hand, are given morning shows.

Kyle was at bars making racist statements claming that he was in Louisiana during Katrina doing terrible things when he wasn't (according to one report)

But remember that in today's America, you can't criticize anyone in uniform no matter what - even if you wear or wore the uniform yourself (exceptions are made for servicemen who question the wars, in which case all is fair).

Else how could we have oddly unproductive and ill-considered, illegal, wars? Else how could perfectly respectable kids who grew up middle class go burn down villages and shoot women and children, then claim it as "body count"? He's not much different, just getting more press. (Drone operators who blow up "terrorists" and those associated around them in homes and cars don't get the same press, oddly).

We did (do) that. Guys who looked just like J Scarborough. When he was a lot younger, anyway. (The same types of stories came out of Vietnam, which makes me wonder if he missed a little history).

Today some troops get even more advanced training in hate, and we have whole groups that support them in it when they return.

Taken aback? Yeah, I bet.

... and I don't know why it hadn't occurred to any of us sooner. Of course Kyle was racist. Did he not refer to Arabs as "rag-heads?" And "Muslims?" But as someone mentioned above, this is what our military does to our troops. The MIC brainwashes our recruits into cold-blooded racist killers. And of course, some of the recruits are racist before they ever enter the military. They are the ones who turn into snipers (if they are good marksmen) like Kyle.

If they're racist to begin with, the military feeds that racism. Sad for Iraq & Afghanistan folks, sad for us, sad for the folks who eat this up and then want to go do the same.
