LINCOLN — Brooke Lawlor, 22, takes 16 to 20 pills a day, has broken ribs and her tail bone, fallen down stairs and off her family’s lakeside dock during a lifelong battle with epilepsy.

Her prescription medications cost the state $35,000 a year, according to her mother, have nasty side effects and don’t work.

“There aren’t any good options out there. They’re all Band-Aids,” Shari Lawlor said.

On Friday, Shari, of Valley, Nebraska, and her daughter joined about 60 people at the State Capitol in urging state lawmakers to legalize an alternative they believe will help people with chronic medical issues — marijuana.

I have several friends that would benefit from this. My own condition would benefit from this too. I would have gone down to Lincoln if I had known.

Medicinal hemp oil bill withdrawn
Published February 7, 2014

Senators voted to withdraw a bill from consideration Feb. 4 that would have permitted use of hemp oil in Nebraska for medical purposes.

LB1102, introduced by Bellevue Sen. Sue Crawford, would have allowed the use of hemp oil extract in Nebraska for medicinal purposes. Only patients with debilitating and chronic medical conditions who suffer seizures or muscle spasms would have been eligible for the treatment.

Crawford said she introduced the bill after meeting a family whose son suffered seizures that were resistant to traditional treatments. Crawford said she intended to pursue the bill if at least one epilepsy specialist in Nebraska was willing to support the law and prescribe the oil for patients.

Despite promising research and legislative efforts in other states advocating the use of hemp oil for epilepsy treatment, Crawford said, “at this time, these physicians in our state are not ready to do that.”

Crawford said she would introduce a legislative resolution calling for an interim study on hemp oil, its use in treating epilepsy and its decriminalization in other states.

Senators voted 41-0 to withdraw the bill.

... I had broken my tailbone way back in 1984, slipped on ice while running through the complex parking lot when I thought I was young and invincible. I had 8 minor surgeries to relieve pressure/intense pain before having flap surgery done and was laid up for 6 months with daily nurse visits due to the open wound left to allow the infection surrounding my tailbone (no natural way for it to drain out fluids when the swelling went down) to be pushed out through the body's normal immune processes. Being rid of the chronic pain, it would inflame again with as little as a bump to the infected area (wall, grocery cart, etc) and leave me with a monster charlie horse or deep ache pain.

Now to finish the story... Darvocet would put me in a bad, bad funk for weeks afterwards, so I would talk to herb and was able to carry on.

I hope Nebraska approves medical MJ, if only to help out Ms. Lawlor.

This issue (the way it stands right now) is really about choosing the lesser of two EVILS: We have Criminal Organizations on the one hand, and then we have Corrupted Law Officials on the other.

But, if the U.S. and Canada were to follow the RULES set forth by the UN, we could seriously kill two birds with only one stone.

So, maybe we should take the FIGHT to the UN, and let the UN battled it out with U.S. and Canada.

Then, please tell me when you hear SANCTIONS imposed against the U.S. and Canada?

I am a very patient man, I can wait however long it's gonna take!
