City will pay $3.9M in 2012 NY police shooting of Bronx teen

Source: AP

By LARRY NEUMEISTER

NEW YORK (AP) — New York City agreed Friday to pay $3.9 million to the family of a black Bronx teenager shot to death by a white police officer in 2012.

The deal settled a federal lawsuit brought by the family of 18-year-old Ramarley Graham.

"This was a tragic case," said New York Law Department spokesman Nicholas Paolucci. "After evaluating all the facts, and consulting with key stakeholders such as the NYPD, it was determined that settling the matter was in the best interest of the city."

Attorney Royce Russell said the family will comment Monday.

The family does receive a lot, as does their lawyer(s).

What about Officer Shootatanythingthatmoves?
The article says he was indicted, the conviction thrown out, no second indictment.

For all we know he's still a NYC cop, still out there waiting to shoot the next unarmed kid.

*HIS* pension, at the very least should go toward that settlement.

....personal liability that most public employees enjoy. ( I say this as a retired public employee.)

Where is the incentive for police officers and others to act responsibly if the taxpayers are forever picking up the tab?
