Fascist supporter of white rights Joshua Bonehill has called for a mass protest in Stamford Hill, home to around 20,000 Jews
A racist agitator has appalled members of Britains Jewish community by announcing plans for a march next month against Jewification in Stamford Hill, the centre of the ultra-orthodox Haredi population.
<snip>
Bonehill has a large following on social media with 26,100 followers on Twitter, raising fears that even without a genuine political organisation behind him, his plan could draw in other far-right groups as well as anti-fascist campaigners, causing problems in the area which is home to an estimated 20,000 Jews.
<snip>
The CST said it is in talks with the Metropolitan police about the march. It said local Jewish leaders are calm about the threat, but that many members of the wider Jewish community have voiced concern.
He has a long record of racist provocation and antisemitic abuse but he doesnt have much record of being able to mobilise large numbers of people on the street, said Dave Rich, a spokesperson for CST. People should treat this with the contempt it deserves. We are speaking with the police and the social media platforms to persuade them to take the information down. We will monitor the situation as it develops. The most important this is that people dont allow his provocation to damage community relations.

Right. Because this guy is an 'agitator', I decided to <snip> his most offensive remarks from the above report.

(14,738 posts)Marches and protests from the likes of the English Defense League and Britain First are not uncommon. Although far right groups are more likely to target Muslims these days.
So he probably does have a right to do this, although any such march will have police all over it. Not to mention anti-fascist counter protests, which would probably be quote a bit larger!

(31,828 posts)In the US in most places you would need some kind of permit. Sometimes Freedom FROM hate speech gets stopped that way!

(53,959 posts)While it is good he doesn't seem to have the power to raise many supporters, it shows a very disturbing, not so underbelly, side of the situation in Europe. It is also interesting to note how, in this case, Jews aren't seen as white.

I always wondered whether bookstores would carry books half as bad as their "guides" to Islam if they were about Jews
or maybe a "Cartari Cipher" that has people surnamed Cohen disappearing thanks to Tiberius inventing rabbis in order to kill off the Sadducees and thwart and falsify what Hillel really wanted

(58 posts)You don't see orthodox rabbis shooting up Fox TV headquarters for all the Jew jokes that Seth MacFarlane does on Family Guy. Heck, you don't even see fundie Christians doing the same for all the Jesus jokes and priest-molestation jokes.
But only one group is willing to resort to murder because their junior sky commander got an unauthorized caricature printed on the French version of The Onion.
Geez, it wasn't even Scientology this time.

(11,841 posts)And they've always poked fun at themselves in movies and on tv. Look at Wolowitz on Big Bang Theory.
Bill Maher has poked at Christians for years. They've never liked it, but he's never really had any credible threats on his life either.

(35,961 posts)Here's a novel idea. How about we condemn these extremists who hate minority groups no matter what minority group they hate? They target Jews, Muslims and immigrants, though the latter two get interchanged with each other.

(11,841 posts)Not to mention those "leaders" living in the country who still preach hate
Regardless of our apparent disagreement on Islamists, I do agree with condemning ALL hate preaching from any of the extremist fools.
Violet_Crumble
(35,961 posts)Wouldn't it? Because then people might start pointing to extreme and violent individuals from other minority groups and you wouldn't be able to argue it's wrong to do so.
We don't disagree on Islamists, btw.

(101,321 posts)A YEOVIL man who falsely labelled other social media users as paedophiles, homosexuals and holding religious views has had his sentencing adjourned as he could be charged with a number of new offences.
Joshua Mark John Bonehill-Paine posted online articles, wanted posters and made derogatory comments about his victims on his politically-motivated website The Daily Bale and has been labelled in court as an internet troll.
The 21-year-old, of Hudson Road, pleaded guilty to a string of offences of harassment and sending malicious messages online and was due to be sentenced by the court at Yeovil on Monday (January 12) after the probation service was requested to produce a pre sentence report.
...
The magistrates agreed to adjourn the case until February 5 and in the meantime they extended Bonehill-Paines bail with conditions that he does not contact named witnesses directly or indirectly.

And, from yesterday:
A YEOVIL man will appear in court tomorrow facing charges relating to an article in which he allegedly claimed fruit and vegetables sold in supermarket giant Tesco were infected with Ebola.
Joshua Bonehill-Paine, 24, will appear at St Albans Crown Court in Hertfordshire tomorrow charged with offences under the 'contamination of goods' section of the Public Order Act 1986.
He is charged that on October 18 last year, he published an article claiming food at Tesco was infected with the disease, which was in breach of the Act by causing "public alarm or anxiety" resulting in "injury or loss" to the alleged victim.

I can't find a report of what happened in court today yet.
