"We've instructed all of our Local 5 employees to clock out and to dismiss themselves from their jobs and to join us on the strike line at 12 o'clock midnight," said Cindy Aban, who is a medical assistant at the Honolulu clinic.
Nearly 1,900 unionized workers will be off the clock for six days.
Ten clinics will be closed on Oahu, Big Island and Maui. Kaiser's 12 other clinics and Kaiser's hospitals will remain open as physicians and registered nurses fill in for striking staffers.

(20,876 posts)Dad suffered a severe stroke in the mid-1990's. The nurses had walked out a few days before this occurred. Hence, the nursing staff was short.
My father received horrific care during this time and he died not long afterwards.
I wrote a letter to Kaiser after this happened and guess what?
They could have cared less.
May you reap what you sow Kaiser Permanente!
