Wyoming man arrested for threat to kill President Obama
1 hour ago By LILLIAN SCHROCK Star-Tribune staff writer
Authorities accuse a mental health patient in Cheyenne who has a violent criminal history of threatening to bomb the White House and kill President Barack Obama.
David Dwayne Perry allegedly used a phone at the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center to call 911 on Jan. 24, according to documents filed in the U.S. District Court of Wyoming on Friday. Perry was a patient in the inpatient behavioral health locked unit.
He told a dispatcher he was going to kill the president. He also threatened to kill hospital employees when he was released.
A special agent of the U.S. Secret Service investigated the threats. Perry declined to be interviewed by the agent. Perry is charged with threatening the life of the president, which carries a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison.

(725 posts)This is where we investigate the place that is treating this guy, not imprison the guy for 10 years.
He's obviously mentally ill. Mentally ill people are fine people when NOT mentally ill. The question is why did this guy not get proper treatment before he was allowed to use a phone to call 911?
There's something wrong with the place treating his illness, and obviously, it's very ineffective.
Even sane people threaten to kill the president, lots of them are just bigots, not crazy.
Why does this case of a mental patient acting out inappropriately and unsupervised while in a mental hospital unit get a news bi-line?

(7,107 posts)Unless he was in the psych ward for a crime, there are limits to how long they can keep him there against his will.
The charges mean they now have an avenue to keep him in the hospital.
