Tonight's multistate Powerball jackpot is $500 million, the fifth-most ever and the largest in the past year, according to a news release from the Michigan Lottery Public Relations Division.

The $2-per-play lottery tickets are sold until 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, and the drawing is scheduled for 10:59 p.m.

"If a Michigan player wins Wednesday's $500-million Powerball jackpot, it would be the largest lottery prize ever won in the state," according to the news release. "Donald Lawson of Lapeer won a $337-million Powerball jackpot on Aug. 15, 2012. Lawson's jackpot holds the record for the largest lottery prize ever won in Michigan."
