Four Russian Drones Violate Ukrainian Airspace in One Day

Source: Newsweek

Four Russian drones have crossed into Ukraine’s airspace over the last day, while a total of 13 were detected near Ukrainian territory by the country’s defense forces, according to a military spokesperson.

Andriy Lysenko, a spokesman for Ukraine’s armed forces currently stationed in separatist-occupied areas in eastern Donetsk and Luhansk, told Ukrainian newspaper Ukrainskaya Pravda four unmanned aircraft had “violated” Ukrainian airspace after crossing over from the Russian territory during the last day, while another nine had been spotted flying nearby.

“According to the latest recording from the OSCE mission, the drone which was used to monitor whether the conditions of the Minsk agreement would be met in the Donetsk airport area was constantly being muffled,” Lysenko also claimed. “This tells us that the enemy uses measures of radioelectric warfare to prevent the work of observers. Once again this goes to show that the pro-Russian militias ignore international regulations and the Minsk agreement,” Lysenko added.

Lysenko did not elaborate on the exact kind of drones that were spotted and did not discuss whether they were eventually intercepted by Ukraine.

7. That's exactly what they are used for.

The Ukrainians shot one of them down and recovered it recently. Basically, they are E08 target drones that are usually used for target practice. Apparently the separatists have been mounting cameras on them and are flying them over Ukrainian positions to get targeting info.

These have been the source of a bit of speculation over the past week or so. On one hand, it's obvious that the drones came from Russia. Ukraine has none of these and the private company that makes them is in Russia. On the other hand, a lot of people are questioning why Russia would give the separatists a bunch of bright orange training drones that were designed to be shot down, and aren't really set up for reconnaissance. The drone that Ukraine shot down appeared to have been hastily converted to make it suitable for recon use. If the Russian government is providing drone support, this is about the dumbest way they could possibly be doing it.

The whole thing really doesn't make much sense.

How many Hellfire missiles were launched?

Okay that was sarcastic, but it you are outraged over alleged Russian drones flying around it seems you ought to be storming the gates at US drone warfare HQ.

5. Tuesdays.. Ironic

David Axelrod, the president’s closest political adviser, began showing up at the “Terror Tuesday” meetings, his unspeaking presence a visible reminder of what everyone understood: a successful attack would overwhelm the president’s other aspirations and achievements.

In the most dramatic possible way, the Fort Hood shootings in November and the attempted Christmas Day bombing had shown the new danger from Yemen. Mr. Obama, who had rejected the Bush-era concept of a global war on terrorism and had promised to narrow the American focus to Al Qaeda’s core, suddenly found himself directing strikes in another complicated Muslim country.

The very first strike under his watch in Yemen, on Dec. 17, 2009, offered a stark example of the difficulties of operating in what General Jones described as an “embryonic theater that we weren’t really familiar with.”

It killed not only its intended target, but also two neighboring families, and left behind a trail of cluster bombs that subsequently killed more innocents. It was hardly the kind of precise operation that Mr. Obama favored. Videos of children’s bodies and angry tribesmen holding up American missile parts flooded You Tube, fueling a ferocious backlash that Yemeni officials said bolstered Al Qaeda.

4. That Magazine cover is some crazy propaganda.

If Putin was as bad as all the media suddenly says he is what does that say about the ability of our own leaders to measure a persons character? After all, our government and corporations did business directly across the table from him for the last 13 years. If they failed at seeing him for who he is for all those years then I would question their own ability to lead a country and make decisions. That cover is so sensationalistic and over the top that I think it will actually swing people the other way and make them realize it is all a blatant propaganda campaign to create the next "Bogeyman" in order to get us to give up more of our savings to the military industrial complex.

whom of course is in the midst of infowar and has been caught regularly with false reports and pictures

What ever happened to investigating and verifying? Especially given the massive propaganda around this conflict?

How is it the only thing that comes out of Ukraine is war reports? Three quarters of the country are not affected by war and there is a lot going on that is not being covered. Such as what is going on with the "lustration" policy? Political repression. The "Law on Propaganda" that was put in place to keep the press from reporting anything that might expose the narratives?
