Hoyer expects Boehner will bring 'clean' DHS funding bill to vote
Source: The Hill
House Democrats expect Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to bring a clean Homeland Security funding bill to the floor this week, Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said Monday.
Hoyer, the minority whip, said Democrats have the option of using an obscure House rule to force a vote on funding legislation that does not include language reversing President Obamas executive actions on immigration.
But he predicted they won't have to go that route.
Instead, he said he expects GOP leaders will bring a bill backed by Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) to the floor. That bill, approved by the Senate last week, would fund Homeland Security though Sept. 30.

(23,086 posts)Based on what, I'm wondering. It certainly isn't based on experience or on what they are saying. They are having a total temper tantrum and by God, no they won't fund DHS because that would actually be doing their jobs and that certainly isn't happening. Besides, they absolutely LOVE this. This gives them a perfect excuse to not run the government or create jobs by funding the interstate transportation fund. Well, we'd have loved to do that, but the nasty Dems wouldn't spite Obama so we're forced to just focus on DHS, to no avail, over and over and over.
What idiots.

(7,402 posts)Why wasn't that "obscure House rule" used last year to force a vote on the Immigration bill the Senate passed. Does it just apply to appropriation bills? What gives.
