APNewsBreak: Massachusetts seeks fed disaster aid for snow

By BOB SALSBERG, Associated Press | March 24, 2015 | Updated: March 24, 2015 4:37pm

BOSTON (AP) — Gov. Charlie Baker's administration plans to ask for federal disaster assistance for the record-setting snowstorms that wreaked havoc on Massachusetts and piled up about $400 million in snow removal costs.

An administration official tells The Associated Press the governor will be sending a letter to President Barack Obama by the end of this week asking for a disaster declaration for 10 Massachusetts counties. That covers roughly 250 cities and towns.

The request seeks 75 percent reimbursement to cities and towns for the costs of snow removal and other damage caused by the storms.

The state will ask that the severe weather over several weeks, beginning in late January, be treated as a single incident.

And then inevitably seek federal aid when the inevitable tornadoes hit this spring.

It'd be like me going:

MA 108, GA 5

Our average is like 50-60" a season. And 108 only covers what Boston got. We're a lot deeper further out in the state where there's a lot more than what Boston got, which gets it lighter in many storms due to coastal water warming conditions.

So with double the snowfall, budgets blown and a shitload of real issues underneath it that we're now discovering as it melts away, there are some legitimate disasters to deal with and requesting aid is what they're supposed to do.

But sure, play the "Hey, I don't get why you guys are crying about this" card.

Compassionate and understanding Democrats, my ass.
