Rand Paul calls for ‘tent revivals’ to resolve the ‘moral crisis’ of gay marriage

Source: RawStory

In a video clip carried by the Christian Broadcasting Network, potential 2016 GOP presidential nominee and Kentucky Senator Rand Paul (R) took up what he called the “moral crisis’ afflicting the country, suggesting that the U.S. needs a series of “tent revivals” to get back on the proper path.

In the video, uploaded by Right Wing Watch, Paul dismissed the idea of the federal government’s involvement in the same-sex marriage debate, saying, “Don’t look to Washington to solve anything.”

“The moral crisis we have in our country — there is a role for us trying to figure out things like marriage — there’s also a moral crisis that allows people to think there would be some other sort of marriage, ” he explained. “I think the exhortation to try and change people’s thoughts has to come from the countryside.”

The libertarian lawmaker then took a slightly religious turn, saying “You know, I’ve said this before, we need a revival in the country. We need another great awakening with tent revivals of thousands of people saying, you know,’reform or see what’s going to happen if we don’t reform’.”

You would think that a libertarian would be in favor of letting people do what they want to do, so long as no one's liberty is at risk.

[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]Arizona legislator says force people to attend church and bonehead here says get revival meetings going.

Betcha we'll suddenly be hearing loud persistent echoes about pushing religion on people as a solution to our problems - instead of the TeaGOP actually doing anything constructive.

Like they used to do at tent revivals during WWII. And perhaps one of the fire-and-brimstone types could preach "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God", like Jonathan Edwards back in the Colonial days pre-Revolution. I understand ol' Jonathan used to reel in the masses, yearning to be saved from eternal damnation.

That Rand--he's full of great ideas, right? Well, full of something. Just one more reason I'm an ex-fundamentalist evangelical almost-life-long Baptist. As for figuring out marriage--well, I'm one of those who sorta figured it out some 47-plus years ago when I wed an avowed atheist. And guess what? We're still married, Rand. Perhaps you should focus on the "problem" of divorce. Lotta that going around amongst us heterosexual couples. Get all those who've split in a big tent and make 'em "unsplit". Talk about an awakening!

NCAA 'concerned' over Indiana law that allows biz to reject gays

Washington (CNN)Indiana Gov. Mike Pence's decision to sign into law a measure that could allow businesses to turn away gay and lesbian customers in the name of "religious freedom" has left the NCAA fretting ahead of next week's men's basketball Final Four in Indianapolis.

"We are especially concerned about how this legislation could affect our student-athletes and employees," NCAA President Mark Emmert said in a statement Thursday afternoon.

And I mean all the state religious freedom bills as well as the clowns lining up for the presidential clown car. They are trying to influence the cons on the Supreme Court. They are trying to make it appear ok for them to shoot down marriage equality.

They have tents, come from all over the country, world and meet to celebrate love and tolerance. The only moral crisis is bible thumping hippocrits robbing the poor to feed the rich.
