Support for Gay Marriage at New High

A week before a closely watched U.S. Supreme Court hearing on the issue, public support for gay marriage reached a new high in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll, with 61 percent of Americans more than six in 10 for the first time saying gays and lesbians should be allowed to marry legally.
Identical or similar majorities favor gay marriage on two key issues before the court: Sixty-one percent oppose allowing individual states to prohibit same-sex marriages. And 62 percent support requiring states to recognize gay marriages performed legally in other states.
Meanwhile, the Huffington Post reports Rep. Steve King (R-IA) introduced legislation to bar federal courts from hearing any cases related to the definition of marriage.

(111,222 posts)and seeing that the enlightened states where marriage equality is the law suffered no ill effects from extending civil rights to all citizens. Straight men didn't abandon their families for other men and the ideal of marriage didn't change for anyone. The sky also failed to fall, the Four Horsemen failed to appear, and the whole population failed to develop full blown AIDS overnight.
IOW, people are seeing that the religious hysterics were lying all the time. Again.
We told them so, of course, but most people need to learn things the hard way.
