Iranian Ships Turn Back From Yemen After Standoff

Source: NBC

Senior defense officials tell NBC News that an Iranian convoy, believed to be carrying weapons destined for the Houthi rebels in Yemen, turned around and is headed north away from that country and toward Iran.

A potential showdown took shape Monday when American ships arrived in the Arabian Sea that U.S. officials said could intercept the convoy. An intercept also could have been carried out by Saudi Arabia, Egypt or the United Arab Emirates, which are patrolling the waters off Yemen.

Saudi Arabia has led Sunni Arab countries, supported by the United States, in carrying out more than three weeks of airstrikes targeting Shiite Houthi rebels, who are backed by Iran and have seized parts of Yemen.

The deployment came after a U.N. Security Council resolution approved last week imposed an arms embargo on leaders of the rebels.

Nine U.S. Navy warships are within striking distance of Yemen as deepening suspicion surrounds a cluster of Iranian cargo vessels that have moved into the region.

Big difference.....information without the hoopla...

I might have gone a bit further.

How bouts we let all fervent religious fanatics (xian, muslim, abrahamic, etc.) gather together in a nice neutral place and just duke it out until there are no more of any of them?

The most logical place would be the (former) Fertile Crescent and adjoining locales (Israel/Palestine/Egypt/Persia/etc.). It has been a source of much of current humanity but since every tom-dick-and-hairy wannabe has lusted after its pomegranets and oil it would make a great boxing ring. All weapons allowed

This might mean transporting a whole bunch of US evangelicals to be part of the Jesus Team. The rest of in the US would wish them godspeed and goodbye. Oh, please take all of your weaponry with you.
