Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, a potential Republican presidential candidate, is trying to close a $1.6 billion budget hole without touching as much as $415,000 per episode in tax breaks that may be due to Duck Dynasty.
The A&E television reality show takes part in the nations most generous entertainment-tax credit program. Jindal is proposing no changes, arguing that reducing such breaks is tantamount to raising taxes. The state approves enough incentives each year to make up at least $200 million in proposed cuts that led Louisiana State University to say that it may plan for insolvency.
Youre talking about between $200 million and $250 million a year that goes out the door to TV and film producers to come here and shoot their pictures, in a state where money is scarce, said Jan Moller, director of the Louisiana Budget Project, which advocates policies that benefit low- and moderate-income people. Its irresponsible to let this part of the budget continue running amok at a time when theyre talking about closing college campuses.

(6,933 posts)1. Jindal is a moron and has nearly bankrupted the state with ideological political schemes that are extremely damaging financially
2. the Duck Dynasty Guy is a moron
3. The film tax incentive employs tens of thousands of people in nearly 100% union productions, with only a few jobs not covered out of thousands
4. The producers and brokers get the tax incentive savings, talent and crew get nothing
So, be angry with the fiscal mismanagement and the politics of ideological purity. But the attempt to dismantle the film tax program is anti-union and targets one of the few job-creation activities in the state of Louisiana. Be careful how you express your outrage.

(23,155 posts)Jindal must hate the people of his state or like all repugs just wants to make them more stupid so they will be willing to work for slave wages for their 1%er pals. Why are all these governors of completely failed economic plans, whose employment levels have decreased under their stewardship, not increased. They have driven their deficits through the roof, their health care through the floor and their credit ratings have declined. Do they think this is a good thing for most and do they think the people are totally unaware? Yes, for the last, they think the lies they pay for on Faux Snooze will deceive the masses enough for them to move on before things get even worse.

Sorry - got carried away by the SF aspects. But that's the only explanation that makes any sense at all. This guy is not a normal human from this planet.
