Russian rocket carrying satellite crashes in Siberia

A Russian rocket carrying a Mexican satellite has malfunctioned and crashed in Siberia, Russia's space agency says.

Sources say that communications were lost with the Proton-M rocket soon before it was supposed to separate from the third-stage rocket.

The engine of the third-stage rocket accidentally switched off, Russian news agencies reported, citing space industry sources.

Russia earns large amounts of foreign exchange from the launches of Western and Asian commercial satellites.

falling out of the sky & malfunctioning in space. We need to get our manned rocket up & running ASAP because it is only a matter of time before the shortcuts cost lives. Russia's space industry is not at all what it once was...Putin is destroying Russia from the inside out!!

Obstructionist Republicans reduced commercial crew spending to make sure it wouldn't happen while Obama was president.

It's possible SpaceX might launch a crewed flight earlier on their own.

To judge this would require knowing the failure rate, not just the number of failures.
