Russia will try to satisfy all possible Iraqs requests for the supply of arms, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putins talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, TASS reports.
"We will try to maximally satisfy all their possible requests to ensure their defence capability and ability to expel the Islamic State fighters and other terrorists from their territory," the minister said.
"We have very close military-technical cooperation with them [Iraq]," Lavrov said. "We, unlike some other countries that want to supply weapons to Iraq, are not making any conditions for this cooperation, proceeding from the fact that both Iraq and Syria, and also Egypt are in the forefront of the fight against terrorism," he added.
Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said previously, referring to the agenda of Putins Thursday meeting with the Iraqi prime minister that the situation in the region, as well as the fight against terrorism are among the possible issues for discussion. No documents are planned to be signed after the meeting, he said.
