SVMH and nurses union reach tentative deal

Source: Monterey Herald

By Phillip Molnar

Salinas >> A lengthy and heated labor battle appears to have finally come to an end Friday as Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital and its nurses union came to a tentative agreement.

The accord prevents a planned strike over modification of the role of some of the nurses, which was the final sticking point in the 16-month affair, according to the California Nurses Association union.

“The union has withdrawn its strike notice,” hospital CEO Pete Delgado wrote in a memorandum to staff, “which is a good thing for our patients and this entire community.”

A ratification vote by nurses is planned for Wednesday.
