John Kasich to enter presidential race

Ohio Governor John Kasich will declare he's a candidate for the presidency, CBS News has learned. On "Face the Nation" Sunday, he told host John Dickerson "I just want to do it if I think I have a path to win."

Kasich plans to announce he's running at Ohio State University, his alma mater, on July 21. His plans were first reported by Politico.

He'll follow a string of other sitting GOP governors into the race - New Jersey Governor Chris Christie will formalize his candidacy Tuesday, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is looking at the week of July 13, and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal jumped into the field just last week.

It remains to be seen whether Kasich will be able to raise his national poll numbers enough to qualify for the first presidential debate on August 6 in his home state of Ohio. But he has maintained an impressive approval rating in his own state - 60 percent, according to Quinnipiac's latest polling, just one point down from his all-time high of 61 percent in April.

He's a straw candidate because he's the VP choice that will be forced on
whoever is the top of the ticket

It's all about OHIO OHIO OHIO

That's why he's the VP candidate

but I don't think he could pull Ohio out if someone like Cruz or Paul was the nominee

I can't imagine him being the VP for Bush or especially Walker; he's too much like Bush and wouldn't add anything to the ticket and he's simply overshadow Walker; he has a brain and Walker doesn't

Bush (FL) - Kasich (OH) and you've got 2 states going GOP that
Democrats need

It's all electoral math in my mind.

Walker is going to implode. Electing a non-college grad in this day and age
would be stone cold crazy

I don't like him one bit, but he is very good at politics and schmoooz. I predict that he would be the GOP nominee over Jeb. But you make some valid points. The two of them together give the Dems a run for the money. What we have on our side right now is that the GOP has ruined their brand with a broad spectrum of I's and others because of their embrace of RW-evangelical intolerance. Clinton/Warren could knock them off, i believe.

He's their man through and through.

As mentioned elsewhere in this thread, Kasich's only strength is possibly delivering Ohio in the general. He'll never get any traction in the primaries as he is nowhere near racist, religiously insane, or just plain crazy enough for the party faithful.

He'll be schmoozing all the while with whoever looks the most viable for the vice presidency.

How is anyone gonna get noticed with so many clowns in the car? It's looking likely no one will have enough delegates come convention time, it could be a bloody mess that ends up pissing off 2/3 of the wacko base.
And to think some Democratic lunatics are still claiming Bernie is unelectable. For real. Spare me. Bernie can wipe the floor with any of the clown show.

The local media will not be able to hide his petulant and downright mean behaviors on the national stage. He will melt down very quickly. He is neither a moderate nor a formidable candidate.

The national media will take him down as soon as they look at all his unsavory connections with charter schools and the incredibly corrupt JobsOhio(aka RobsOhio), not to mention the 400 million dollars he helped Lehman Bros take from the state retirement funds when he worked for them right before their collapse.

It will NOT be Jeb, Walker, Christie, Cruz or any of the other Clown Car Members. Wanna know why? Kasich has just the right unknown entity favor about him to do damage. Here are the facts:

1). He's Fresh. No not totally like he's never been in Politics Fresh (he served in the Bush 43 White House for Pete's Sake) but, he's not damaged.

Jeb - Damaged, Walker - Damaged and a Idiot, Christie - Damaged, Unmanageable and a Loud Mouth, Cruz - Please Damaged and Completely Un-Electable outside of Texas.

2). He knows how to play the game. Guess where "Right to Work for Less" is NOT at in the Midwest besides Illinois? Can you say: Ohio, Ohio, Ohio. Yes, that is Ohio.

And Kasich will play this to the tenth power, then do a Scott Walker once in the White House. Bet on it.

3). He does have Koch Ties -- but they are not well known. He will use this to his advantage.

4). Can you say Bush Money? They know full well Jeb CANNOT win so their money will be behind and in front of Kasich.

Kasich will do everything Jeb would have done as President and play the "Moderate Conservative" BS on the America People stupid enough to fall for it. The scary thing is, it might work --- again.

5). Ohio, Ohio, Ohio. If Kasich is the nominee SORRY FOLKS - he WILL WIN OHIO unless the other Candidate is an Inspiring Democratic Nominee.

That makes Florida the end game which they have another FREAKING GOP slime ball of a Governor Rick Scott, ready, willing and probably able to pull a Jeb Bush 2.0 - 2000 Style for Kasich if necessary.

Which would mean the Democrat would have to pull up (besides the old reliable states of California, New York and a few others) West Virginia, South Carolina. Colorado, New Mexico AND Kentucky (and Tennessee for safe keeping) - and still lose all the south to have any chance at the Electoral College.

BUT -- then Michigan and Indiana (both ran by pieces of slime bucket GOPee Governors themselves) could flip flop Kasich's way too. ESPECIALLY MICHIGAN - cause hate break it to ya folks: Kasich and Tricky Ricky Snyder are BUDDIES. Close, Close Scary Close Buddies.

6). If Michigan + Ohio, Florida, the South, Tennessee and South Carolina, the Upper Western States are lost for the Dems -- the Math does NOT work. REPEAT, the MATH DOES NOT WORK!

7). The ONLY THING that can stop this train from jumping off the tracks is a Obama 2008 Style Candidate. Again, sorry Hillary Folks - but THAT CANDIDATE is NOT Hillary.

It's Bernie Sanders!!

To beat the plan the GOPee has set up in motion, it will take (GUESS WHAT) NEW VOTERS + the Old Ones and Disaffected Ones = Voting for the Democratic Nominee in MASS. I.E. - An INSPIRING Candidate is needed to make this happen and it ain't Hillary, no matter how much $$$ she has on deck.

This is why Kasich is Dangerous. The Democrats better get a game plan ASAP to handle Kasich or the Crap will Hit the Fan VERY SOON!
