Pier shooting suspect had been released from S.F. Jail

Source: San Francisco Chronicle

The man arrested on suspicion of murder in the shooting death of Kate Steinle on San Francisco’s Pier 14 Wednesday had a rap sheet of seven felonies, was deported five times and in March was released from San Francisco Jail, despite immigration authorities asking that he be held, officials said Friday.

That release was in line with San Francisco Sheriff’s Department policies, which say the department will not comply with requested immigration holds based solely on allegations a person is in the country illegally.

On March 26, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers turned 45-year-old Francisco Sanchez over to San Francisco police on an outstanding drug warrant and requested that they be notified before his release, so federal officers could take him into custody and deport him.

But after the district attorney’s office declined to prosecute Sanchez for what authorities said was a decade-old marijuana possession case, sheriff’s deputies released Sanchez without notifying immigration authorities, said Virginia Kice, a spokeswoman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Go look up the "Deacons of Defense":

At a meeting held in the union hall, Thomas and Kirkpatrick merge their two groups into the Deacons for Defense and Justice which they later incorporate as a Louisiana non-profit organization for the purpose of "educating United States citizens, and especially minority groups, in the principles of democracy." The Deacons are not the first in the Freedom Movement to practice armed self-defense against the Klan — Robert Williams and the Monroe, NC, NAACP branch he led did so in 1957, as did the Black community in St. Augustine FL, and also individuals and ad-hoc groups in Southwest Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi. But the Deacons are the first to set up a formal, explicit — and public — self-defense organization.

The Deacons adopt strict rules and discipline. Members must be 21 or older — many are World War II and Korea combat veterans in their thirties and forties. Members pay $10 to join and monthly dues of $2. They supply their own shotguns and rifles, and the organization supplies ammunition purchased in bulk through a discount program of the National Rifle Association (NRA). The bylaws make it clear that the Deacons stand for defense, not provocation. They will not offensively attack whites or white- owned property, but they are determined to defend civil rights activists and the Black community — with guns if necessary. Equipped with walkie-talkies and CB radios for communications, guards are posted around the Freedom House and outside mass meetings, Deacons patrol the Quarters at night, and armed escorts are provided for CORE freedom-fighters entering and leaving town.

(It is worth noting that the aforementioned Robert Williams founded an NRA chapter for blacks in 1960.

And while you may have doubts as to its sincerity, the NRA is currently doing POC outreach:

As to how many NRA members are racists, I have no idea, but the organization's official stance is not racist. Several of the NRA's board members are black, at least according to Mother Jones. Of course the NRA's board also includes Grover Norquist and Oliver North, so there's no accounting for taste.

If you form the habit of taking what someone else says about a thing without checking it out for yourself, you”ll find that other people will have you hating your friends and loving your enemies. - Malcolm X

2. San Francisco Woman Shot, Killed While Strolling on Pier with Father in 'Random Shooting'

Yahoo! article says he was on probation in Texas.

more info here:

https://gma.yahoo.com/san-francisco-woman-shot-killed-while-strolling-pier-195941198--abc-news-topstories.html

A San Francisco woman was recently shot and killed in a seemingly "random shooting" while she was strolling and taking photos with her father in a tourist-heavy area of the city, according to the authorities and the victim's family.

Kathryn Steinle, 31 -- a medical sales rep was on her way to see her sister-in-law, who was expecting a baby -- was shot in her upper torso at Pier 14 in San Francisco on Wednesday around 6:30 p.m., police said.

Despite a Good Samaritan helping officers attend to Steinle before paramedics arrived, she later died at San Francisco General Hospital.

The alleged shooter, Francisco Sanchez, 45, fled the scene, but officers found him in front of a restaurant in the area about an hour after Steinle was shot. Sanchez was on probation in Texas at the time of the shooting, and he has been formally charged with Steinle's murder, according to authorities.

It's time that we got serious about the border. Incredibly, the USA tolerates the hyper-porous border that allows in MS-13, Mexican Mafia, and 18th Streeters by the thousands.

And, yes, this scumbag needs to be dealt some American justice for what he has done. Nobody should ever walk free after such a senseless murder, let alone one with such a long rap sheet.

The US Chamber of Commerce loves the CHEAP LABOR illegal aliens offer. They are not about to give that up. They will probably bribe each side more than they give the conservanazis, but they will not tolerate closing their source of CHEAP LABOR.
I live in the Houston area. Many contractors ONLY USE illegal alien labor because they can abuse and mistreat them. What is the illegal going to do? Call the cops? The Feds? ICE? Many of these owners thinks it's funny, but that's the way it is. They don't care. Anything for a profit.

We moved to CA from TX. My mom was born in TX but of Hispanic roots. When she tried to get a job, she had to pretend to be an illegal to get hired. Small businesses prefer illegals. Border around the world have never been closes. The Berlin Wall is a good example people were still able to get across. Look at the recent prison break, fences, guards, alarms, and they still got out.
Can we afford to build a wall like Berlin or Clinton Prison? No way.

who present a case that they shouldn't be subject to the same scrutiny by police, as much as the immigrants who are in gangs/commit violent crime.

But should cases like the deaths of Katie Steinle and Anthony Bologna be the cost of not deporting the hardworking undocumented immigrant janitor? Sure, Blackstone might've said, "It is better that ten guilty persons escape than that one innocent suffer." But when the guilty persons aren't supposed to be in the country in the first place the law has got to triumph over appeals to freedom.

As long as there's a market for cheap illegal immigrant labor for the "dirty jobs" like janitors, cooks, farmhands, etc., America will never find a real solution to the immigration issue.

The ban on immigration enforcement is replicated in immigrant-heavy localities across the country — in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Austin, San Diego, and Houston, for example. These so-called "sanctuary policies" generally prohibit a city’s employees, including the police, from reporting immigration violations to federal authorities.

From what I read about this, he was shooting at sea lions and it was an accidental shooting. He got scared when he saw he hit the woman and threw his gun in the bay (it was recovered). He ran and hid (as anyone would do if they were constantly being arrested for illegal entry).

I don't think this was an intentional "random" shooting, and his convictions were all for minor drug charges (marijuana) and for reentry after being deported.

He was not a hardened criminal who had a record of doing things to hurt anyone, or theft or rape or anything.

Come on people. Let's not buy into the hype. Immigrants are not the boogie man.

Why point out he wanted to shoot sea lions instead? It's still just as wrong. And the fact is, had he been sent from local custody to ICE in April, Katie Steinle would still be alive today. Doesn't matter if the suspect never committed a violent crime (to the public's knowledge) anyway.

If it was a mistake, that mistake should be rewarded with a life in prison, no possibility of parole, type of sentence.

The only "immigrant" issue with this piece of shit, is, he should never have been in this country, to begin with.

Not to mention, this will likely kill the "sanctuary" law in S.F., and help asshole fuckwits like Donald fuckin Trump with their bullshit spewing.
