Abbreviated translation:
Concerning the growing social hardships in Greece, Martin Schulz, President of the European Parliament, expects the EU to propose a "humanitarian aid-program" for Greece within the next few days. The "poorest of the poor" should not be forced to pay the price for the uncompromising politics of the left-wing government in Athens, the SPD-politician said in an interview with ARD. (The SPD is the social-democratic party of Germany. The ARD is the biggest state-owned TV-channel in Germany.) Chancellor Angela Merkel and France's President Francois Hollande talked by phone on Sunday evening and agreed to an EU emergency-meeting on Tuesday.
People tend to overlook Schulz because he's no head of state. He's a staunch defender of the european idea and he knows how to get shit done behind the scenes in the EU.
The regular meetings of the european heads of states are actually usurping functions intended for the European Parliament and the European Commission.

(614 posts)agree with helen here. the tone of schulz's comments make me suspicious the agenda is to alienate the poor from their own sirizsa govt, fomenting an uprising. which is precisely what the EU predicts, and wants!
them's the bastards.
