Dem senator withdraws vets fertility bill, cites GOP attacks

WASHINGTON (AP) — With partisan battling over abortion on the rise, a Democratic senator withdrew a bill Wednesday expanding government fertility services for wounded veterans and blamed what she said was a Republican attack on women's health care. A GOP senator said the changes he was pushing were designed to set priorities for an overburdened Department of Veterans Affairs.

Meanwhile, the White House went further than it had since the uproar began last week over secretly recorded videos of Planned Parenthood officials discussing how they provide organs from aborted fetuses for research. White House spokesman Josh Earnest suggested President Barack Obama would veto legislation erasing federal funds for Planned Parenthood, as many Republicans want to do, and said the videos could have been "selectively edited to distort" Planned Parenthood's procedures, as the group has claimed.

At the Justice Department, Attorney General Loretta Lynch said her department would review the information surrounding the videos and "determine what steps, if any, to take at the appropriate time."

Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., said she had expected the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee to easily approve her bill on Wednesday. But in a Senate floor speech, Murray said she was withdrawing the measure because Republicans decided "to leap at the opportunity to pander to their base" by offering amendments designed to "roll back the clock and take away women's health care options.".....

...the article goes on to list some of these vile Repug amendments....

Like helping people to become fertile so they CAN have babies. Isn't that what the GOP wants. Oh, I forget, not if it costs money.

The Pro-Life movement and GOP are distorting the issue revolving around the acquisition and distribution of fetal tissue and organs for use in medical research. It is amazing how much crap is MADE UP about this. Reality is that THERE ARE strict REGULATIONS through the NHI Revitalization Act of 1993 and several U.S. codes that cover abortion procedures and the collection/distribution of fetal tissues/organs. All entities involved from the abortion provider through to the medical facility doing research are subject to FOLLOWING THE LAW. From the narratives and accusations from the right, they deliberately deceive, wanting you to think PP is freewheeling it, doing whatever they want. PP and other providers can not even discuss what to do with fetal remains until the woman FIRST signs a consent form for the procedure. Only then can they discuss the option of donating fetal tissue/organs. At that point a donation form is completed and signed by the woman and doctor. There is no compensation to the woman/donor. That would be ILLEGAL. It is also illegal to perform an abortion for the sole purpose of harvesting tissue/organs. These materials are only used for research. It is medically IMPOSSIBLE to use fetal organs for direct transplant, although you will see pro-lifers make that claim over and over again. They are misinformed or DELIBERATELY lying about that. Organs in the fetus are fully developed at 12 weeks, so they are available for donation in the FIRST TRIMESTER( when 90% of abortions are done) and it is the CELLS from these organs that are used. Researchers studying specific diseases of the brain, heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, etc., need cells from these organs. There are extensive records to be completed and kept on file to prove that ALL are following the letter of the law. Beginning with the records completed by the abortion provider, copies of those records MUST be passed on to ALL the entities that RECEIVE the donations. The bio labs, and all medical research facilities and university medical labs, BY LAW, must keep these records and upon AUDIT, be able to PROVE the fetal tissue specimens they received were DONATED and proof that these materials were RECEIVED through a LEGAL transaction. By accusing PP of SELLING "baby parts" which is ILLEGAL, Center for Medical Process is inadvertently also accusing EVERYONE involved of a crime. The law says, SELLING, BUYING and knowingly RECEIVING fetal material through a SALES transaction are ALL ILLEGAL acts. PP and these labs establish written and signed CONTRACTS, spelling out procedures and REIMBURSEMENT fees. These are kept to prove they are compliant with the law.

could have a variety of injuries that could make it difficult to conceive. This should be a no-brainer but once again is evidence that the GOP cares nothing about the people who wear the uniform. They only care about who they're bombing.
