Satan statue unveiled in Detroit

Source: WERG

DETROIT — While the South argues over statues of Confederate veterans, Detroit’s statue controversy revolves around a different figure — Satan.

Satanic Temple had said it would unveil the statue Saturday at a Detroit location that only people with tickets would know. Hundreds lined up Saturday evening to get the tickets as Christian protesters rallied nearby.

Several hundred people attended a Mass at a Detroit Catholic church to protest the 8-foot-tall bronze statue of Satan.

Earlier Saturday, The Detroit News said between 200 and 250 people attended Mass at St. Joseph Church in a protest against the Satanic event. The group had hoped to place the statue at the state Capitol in Oklahoma City until Oklahoma’s Supreme Court banned religious displays on Capitol grounds.?w=400&h=225&crop=1

then why the protests? Has it gotten so bad in the rest of America (outside the Bible Belt) that "freedom of religion" means freedom to choose which denomination of Christianity only? That's how it is where I live, at least. Sounds like those protesters are acting the same way there too. If they want their freedom of religion and to post statues and monuments everywhere on public grounds, then they need to let the Satanists have freedom of religion too and STFU about it.

Anyone that had a ticket to the event had to sign a contract transferring their soul to Satan. They were then admitted to the 'event' and given the address of the REAL event a few miles away!

WOMEN’S REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS

The Satanic Temple is accepting donations to assist our efforts to challenge arbitrary, insulting, and outright harmful regulations imposed on women who seek abortions.

An important precedent is taking shape in Missouri, where our exemptions may soon be tested. “Mary,” a Temple member, will be formally notifying her doctor that her deeply held beliefs would be violated if she is forced to receive inaccurate information as required by the State, and if she is forced to endure a mandated 72 hour waiting period. These requirements unreasonably violate the sovereignty of her and body.

Since 1973’s Roe v. Wade ruling by the Supreme Court which safeguarded the legality of abortion, the conservative religious right has instigated anti-abortion initiatives. Many lawmakers have introduced “weasel bills” transparently designed to make the process of receiving an abortion more difficult, and emotionally and logistically harrowing. Those who define the issue in terms of personal choice typically find their views marginalized as being outside of the realm of religious protection. While religio-conservative views seek to undermine abortion rights, they have also steadily worked to define “religious liberty” to be understood in terms of reserving the right to deny contraceptives and oppose rational family planning practices. We intend to show that religious liberty can also protect and promote these legal practices.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satanism

Although the public practice of Satanism began with the founding of The Church of Satan in 1966, historical precedents exist: a group called the Ophite Cultus Satanas was founded in Ohio by Herbert Arthur Sloane in 1948.[2]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_of_Satan

The Church of Satan rejects the legitimacy of any other organizations who claim to be Satanists, dubbing them reverse-Christians, pseudo-Satanists or Devil worshipers.[10] Today, the Church of Satan promotes itself as the only authentic representation of Satanism, and it routinely publishes materials underscoring this contention.[11]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temple_of_Set

The Temple of Set was consecrated in Santa Barbara, California during the summer solstice of June 1975, by Michael A. Aquino, in a "greater black magic" ritual ...

The Temple was founded by members of the Church of Satan,[5] who left that organization in 1975 because of administrative and philosophical disagreements with its founder Anton Szandor LaVey.[5] Michael Aquino had joined the Church of Satan in 1969 and had risen rapidly in the Church's hierarchy.[4] Aquino has stated that he believed LaVey to not be merely a charismatic leader but to have been actually appointed by Satan himself (referring to this charismatic authority as the "Infernal Mandate&quot to found the Church.[6] After the split of 1975, Aquino believed LaVey had lost the mandate, which the "Prince of Darkness" then transferred to Aquino and a new organization, the Temple of Set.[6]

you didn't even bother to research very deeply...The Satanic Temple is NOT a fundamentalist group, first of all, second, they don't worship Satan unless by worship you mean they associate with each other in order to defy fundamentalist Christian sects and groups. They ARE a unique organization of open-minded thinkers and artists and folk from all walks of life who oppose religious influence and interference in the charter of civil rights we all partake of.
I repeat, they have nothiong to do with religious fundamentalism and you should try to be more honest when attempting to sway others. Use truth, it works really well. Look for yourself; http://thesatanictemple.com/

What I find ironic about the whole situation is that satanists are just another christian sect like catholics or protestants, they aren't even a seperate religion! They all still believe the same fairy tale... they just view it a little bit different.

All this goat-feet and horn-thing was invented later on when the devil was mixed with the pagan attributes of Satyrs.

"Satan" simply means an opposing force (e.g. the accuser in court) and is originally a title. There are many Satans in the Torah. Christianity turned it into the name of one guy.

You know, what would have been really funny and really scary?

Make a statue that looks like an ordinary person. A perfectly normal human. (Maybe with a robe or coat, to signify a legal profession.)

If a Christian sees a Satan-statue with horns, he will automatically know that it's bad: "Here is my enemy!" He will be encouraged by the fact that he can see the evil.

But imagine him expecting to encounter a monster and then he has to realize that the monster wears a face just like those around him... Now he can't see the evil.

31. Baphomet is an old French corruption of a Sufi name for God.
Mon Jul 27, 2015, 01:47 PM
Jul 2015

Baphomet was a creation of the Knights Templar when they were guarding conquered lands during the Crusades. While in Syria and Palestine, they came into regular and sustained contact with Sufi Muslims. Abu fihama(t) is one of the Sufi names for God, and simply means "Father of Understanding (knowledge)" It's well understood that the Knights Templar were all well-versed in Arabic and most spoke it on a daily basis while they spent years in the middle east. It's fairly natural that they incorporated some Arabic into their native languages and traditions. Abu fihima(t) became bufihimat became bafohomet. It was simply a reference to God in a language other than their own (and, from a religious standpoint, no different than when a modern Christian calls Jesus "the Savior&quot .

The fantastic descriptions of "baphomet idols" with three faces or horns wasn't part of Templar worship, and only came up from people being tortured to death. The inconsistencies in their descriptions makes it very clear that they weren't referencing the same thing, and that they were just making things up to end the torture. If they'd all described the same idol, it would have been one thing, but there was almost NO consistency between the descriptions of Baphomet given by most Templars.

Essentially, the concept of Baphomet as Satan was the creation of the Christian church during the destruction of the Templar order. It was a political tool used to discredit them, by associating their use of a "foreign" word for God with the enemy of Christendom. From a historical standpoint, it doesn't appear that there was ANY genuine association between Baphomet and the occult until the various mystical and wiccan movements started using it in the 1800's. That use of the symbol largely traces back to a single Italian author who wrote an anti-Mason tome in the early 1800's, connecting the Masons to the Templars and then creating a largely fictional history of Baphomet worship within that order. The goal, of course, was to imply that Masons were Satanists. That book led to others, and the concept spread from there.

All of this, of course, is why the Satanic Temple uses Baphomet as their symbol. Baphomet is not only a "fake deity", but he's an easily provable fake deity. Because the Satanic Temple exists to promote skepticism and rational thought, using a symbol that clearly demonstrates just how fake and silly religions can get is the perfect exemplification of their "faith".
